This is my first venture into the forum world. A friend in Texas built a Jeep to go rock crawling and I decided I'd give it a try. So far, I have had a "collection" of CJ's hanging around my backyard and then bought a garage to keep them in, but have had little time/money to work on them. Things are starting to open up and I just pulled the I6 from the build Jeep CJ7 (should have pulled the tranny and Transfer Case first). I came here looking for tips and decided to register to collect more information. I initially collected tips and info about 5-6 years ago and remember enough to get into trouble.

I first bought a green '83 CJ7 (the build Jeep) with a decent body and frame but soon discovered that the gearing was worst than any factory setup. It has an older, heavy I6 (70's vintage, can't remember how I determined that) hooked up to a T-15 (13-07-065-901) 3-speed and a Dana 20 xfer case. It has open diffs on the stock axles with 3.31 gears. 3.00x2.03x3.31=won't climb a curb!

I bought another older CJ7 that contained an AMC 360, Jeep T-18 (6.32, old, rev up by 3rd) and Dana 20 . It has a few other nice items to pull, radiator, large gas tank (maybe the V8 fuel lines), stainless battery tray, you get the idea.

I bought another '83 CJ7 with a mildly customized I6, an aluminum 4-speed (T-4 ) and a Dana 300 with Terra low 4:1 and twin stick shifters. It also has 4.56 gears with a Detroit locker in the rear and Tru-trac up front in the AMC20 and Dana 30 axles. The AMC20 also has one piece axles and power (F & R) disk brakes.

The last CJ, which was going to be a project for spare parts off the engine donor, is a 70's era CJ5 with a Chevy 350, automatic and SOA setup. Fiberglass tub, broken windshield and 37.5" worn mud tires. I think this one is going to my neighbor (if he ever produces cash).

What I would like to share and collect are thoughts on the best way to set this green '83 Jeep up for fun and any tech tips I run across. Some parts will be swapped, some cannibalized, some sold and some tossed. I read a lot of forums, motorcycles, boats and Jeeps, but this is the first one I've joined, wish me luck.
