Hey guys,

When you tear down your Jeep to frame would always sand blast it down when you have surface rust?

Grinding would be crazy labor...

The tap test everywhere looks good but I did have rotted frame ends at the rear shackles that have been cleaned, beefed up and fixed.

Could remove and beef up the skid plates at the same time...

Just wandering if this would open another can of worms...

When I tore mine down to the frame, I had it chemically dipped. Then the frame was strengthened, boxed, and all OEM welds checked. I later painted it with POR15 inside/out.

Can of worms??? No. You really want to find out any weak areas in the frame. If you don't start with a good frame, you might as well not start at all.

I would have it blasted if possible, but I would make sure that you soda blast it. That way no metal is removed, just all the rust and paint. I used a combination of a rust encapsulator and POR 15 on mine with a top coat of paint. But I wire wheeled and scraped my frame. Also be mindful of inside the frame where it's boxed in. I used Eastwood inside the frame coating.

Had soda blasting done.

Found a small crack and two small rust spots both easily fixed...now that the 30 years of rust and more are gone it was noticed it is a bit off...so sent to the frame shop for straightening.

Can have it powder coated pretty inexpensively think I am going that route after some rust proofing

Thanks again guys.

sweet let us know how it goes

Found three small rust thru areas on the bottom inner part of the frame...going to patch that up.

Also now that it is cleaned we could get an accurate measurement and it was off by about 1/2" so it got straightened yesterday...

Always see the Rust Guy on tv.says u clean off dirt a :dung:, but u spent even have to sand it. Combines chemically with rust and it won't rust again. Don't know. Also heard of POR 14
