Electrical Fuel gauge makes buzzing sound when 12v is plugged in
So, I recently got this CJ7 and the fuel gauge and temp gauge don't work. I first tested the temp sending unit line by grounding the end that plugs onto the temp sensor and turning the key on, by giving the gauge power with the key, and the sending unit to ground, the gauge came alive. I only allowed it power for a second because apparently this will burn up the gauge if you do it too long. Today, I'm looking at the gauges and making sure the nuts are tight (they weren't) and that I have 12v going to the fuel gauge with a multimeter. I discover that the power line to the fuel gauge is not even plugged in. I'm wondering how I was able to complete a circuit with the temp gauge when the pair doesn't have power. I plug in the power to the fuel gauge (tested it first, had 12v) and I hear an intermittent buzzing sound. BTW, I can't pinpoint where exactly the buzzing sound is coming from within the speedometer/gauge assembly. I'm thinking now this is probably the reason the previous owner unplugged it. I'm thinking maybe when these gauges have voltage they are shorting out somewhere.
Few other details
There is 1 bolt missing out of the 4 that hold the speedo assembly to the dash, is this a grounding issue?
I have working blinker lights and high beam light. No parking brake light, I've heard this could be a sign that your 12v wire to the fuel gauge could be dead but I've already tested that wire and have 12v.
After plugging in the 12v to the fuel gauge and hearing the buzzing, now my volt gauge doesn't work anymore. I won't be able to test the Oil gauge until tomorrow because my valve cover is currently off and waiting for a new gasket to arrive.
