Fuel Leak

Hello Everybody,
I'm new to the forum and seeking some advice. I thank you all in advance. I'm currently in the middle of swapping my carter carb to a motorcraft and all is going.....ok I suppose. After I got the motorcraft installed I realized my fuel pump must have gone bad, so I replaced that and the metal fuel line that runs to the fuel filter as well. Once I got my Jeep running again I noticed two things immediately. Firstly, fuel was leaking from the fuel pump where the metal fuel line connects to it. Secondly, my fuel filter (brand new) was completely full of gas and I don't remember it being that way when it ran.
I haven't run my jeep in about a year, but it's been a few years since its been run steadily. It has some old fuel in it that probably gelled. I added 5 gallons of fresh ethanol free fuel and some additives hoping it wouldn't gunk things up.
My concern is that there is too much pressure because of bad fuel and the filter is getting clogged, also causing the fuel to leak out the coupling at the filter. I had also heard (after the fact) when attaching the fuel line, if two wrenches are not used it could crack the pump causing a leak. Needless to say, I used one wrench.
What do you all think?
Thanks,
Jeff
