Everydangbody uses a 'start'(12vdc to the coil)circuit and a'run'(6 vdc continuous to coil).
You may well have a bad ign switch.

Having the starter relay wired incorrectly will produce those results also. On that relay, the light blue wire should go to the "S" terminal and the red wire goes to the "I" terminal. Bypassing an ignition module is a new one on me, I would like to see a schematic on that one.

How would I test this? Would jumpering 12v to the coil and seeing if it keeps running after that isolate the switch? I would just pull the jumper to kill the engine I believe.

Thanks.

YES-Don't run it more than a minute or so. You'll 'smoke' the coil.
Pull the wire to 'kill' the engine.
Best of luck,

ok. problem solved. It would help if I had hooked the bump starter up to the correct points on the solenoid. Fires right up now.

I will set the timing next and then hook up my vacuum gauge to dial in the idle speed mixture. Once i am satisfied with that, the HEI dist I built for it will go in. That should remove the need for the Ignition Control Module. A whole lot of unneeded wiring can be removed at that point.

So many things to do now. Thanks for all the advice. I am sure I will have many more questions.

THX for the update.
WE all have a goof from time to time.
