Hey guys,

I have been doing a bunch of little stuff to my jeep, but something that gets me is I am thinking I have a problem with the Fuel Tank:

PO has installed a clear plastic fuel filter up front by the carb, I have no hoses running from the vacuum canistor, so I am lead to believe that I do not have a return line running back to the tank.

If there is no return line to the tank, could this cause an air pocket in the tank, when ever I fill the tank with gas, I have to pump it real slow.... then when it is full, I shake/rock the jeep back and fourth and it will hold a little more, and shake/rock and hold some more... but it never holds a lot of fuel.
The most I have ever put in is about 8 gallons. But the gauge goes down pretty quickly and never actually goes all the way to full. ( I havent checked my mileage yet... but it isnt very good)

I plan on filling a five gallon gas can putting in the back, then filling the jeep up and just run it plum empty to see if the gauge is even accurate.

But I am confused about the filling the tank process.... has anybody ran across something like this? is it possible to have an air pocket in the tank... if so how do ya get the air out?

thanks

Were the fuel filler line goes into the tank, there should be a smaller vent hose that runs back the the filler neck. I had the same issue on my Jeep. The vent line was kinked at the frame. I had to put in a new vent hose and plumbed in a 90 at the frame to help route it better. Fills better now that it can breath.

ok, good deal I will check that out... was hoping it was something simple.
thanks for the help.

what about the Return Line? Should I re-install one or leave it alone, It runs good... but I read somewhere that if it is suppose to have the return line and doesnt, that it would fuild the carb... that could be wasting gas correct?
but it would also run bad with too much fuel I would think... but it is running great??

any thoughts?

Thanks

You could possibly flood the carb with no return line. the 6 cylinders regulated with that line. When I swapped the 350 in I took out the return line because the stock 350 fuel pump is the right pressure for my carb. As long as you are not over 7psi you should be fine. Anything over that will push past the needle and seat on the carb.

ok, I will get a Fuel Pressure Gauge and put on there too.
that just hooks up between, the fuel pump and the fuel fitler to carb. or after the fuel filter?

Thanks
