New to the site and new to automotive (though am mechanically inclined - woodworking, construction, electrical, electronics on medical devices, can read instructions and search for videos). Working on 73, CJ5 , V8, AMC 304 , that had been sitting in heated garage for 8 years when I purchased. Have done lots of work and about ready to start except for gas. Gas tank needs to be replaced. Looks like someone may have been there before me. :) When I took off the bolts holding it to the rear frame, they were though rubber grommets with washers on top. The grommets were on top of the tank lip serving no purpose. I haven't been able to find a diagram or video showing any grommets or mounting details. It seems like a good thing to have grommets between tank skid plate and frame. I did find a grommet kit for my year on eBay, which I ordered. It comes with 6 grommets. If all 6 are to be used, where do they go? Am I supposed to be using grommets?

While I'm asking questions - There was no strap holding the tank to the skid plate. The new tank came with straps, but don't see how they would connect to skid plate. The tank bolts to the frame on the back and to a very ridged brackets on the front. Do I need straps to hold the skid plate to the tank? I don't think it is going anywhere. Finely, I saw on a video that there was some kind of padding between the tank and the skid. Mine didn't have any, or at least any remaining though there is a stain where one might have been at one time. I was thinking of putting some form of thing rubber pad or gasket between. Any ideas, opinions, thoughts, etc.?

I'm sure some of my questions will be silly to some of you, but please hang with me. Any help is appreciated!
