has anyone ever installed dodge m880 axles under a CJ7 jeep

A 44 front and 60 rear.

I have a Dodge 60 rear and a chevy 60 front in my CJ6 .

What's your question?

I moved the spring perches.

I narrowed both axles, front (4”) and rear (1”).

The rear 60 has 30 spline 44 size shafts so I bored out the spindles to except 1.5 thick shafts and 35 pline

I ordered 1.5 thick 1541H alloy 35 spline shafts that came with a one year warranty for $110 each I felt they were good enough for my needs. When I opened the packing slip it says “our supplier shipped 4340 chromoly shafts, so these shafts have a lifetime warranty”.

Going disc is easy to do plus you save some weight.

I searched for a rear disc brake conversion kit for my rear 60 and found they sold for $300 and up so I thought I’d put together my own kit. I found the caliper brackets on dabay for under $30 everything else I found at flaps with a 20% discount. I’ll list the part numbers to save others time.

Short brake hose from a chevette # H36847 $8
K-20 rotor #YH141049 $31
K-20 caliper #18-4122 and #18-4123 $13
Pads #MKD52 $18

I paid $125 for everything a $175 savings over the kits.

I talked to a couple vendors that sold disc brake kits about using the original studs and they said they would work but I felt the K-20 rotors were too thick. The knurl on the lug wasn’t making enough contact with the hub for my liking so I bought new ones with a longer shoulder.

#610-148 - 81 dodge ramcharger w/o locking hubs 16 for $25

Thread: 1/2-20
Knurl Dia.: .625"
Length: 1-15/16"
Shoulder Length: 1"

Hope this helps.

yeah man that looks great. but i thought of buying the brackets & then buy a chevrolet 5/4 ( have connections to a volunteer fire department) unbolt the axles, driveshaft ,brake lines and go from there what did you do about driveshafts. and the steering geometry on the front axle.

You can do the same disc brake upgrade on a 14b as well. I went with a ford explorer front shaft for the front and rear and conversion u-joints with 1310 caps on one side and 1350 caps on the other. You will already have the beefy 1350 driveshafts so you could swap out the Transfer Case yokes as well.

i have a CJ5 and i am wanting to put full size axles under it and a suspension to get good flex without emptying my wallet! Anybody have any suggestions for me? Thanks!

I just did a swap to wagoneer Dana 44 axles and used the poison spyder full width kit. It truly is a great kit. I am using a small lift ,2.5" and am running into steering linkage issues do the kit moving the axle forward somewhere a little over an inch. But if your running a taller lift or going soa i would very highly recommend the kit!

An aftermarket steering bracket (more) will move the box forward 1 ¼” from its original position. Trimming the crossmember for access to the PS lines will be necessary. I plated the crossmember at the rear of the cut and add some steel to the front for added support.
