Gas tank installation?

Alright so i was trying to put the gas tank in my jeep and i have spent several hours on it and cannot for the life of me figure out how it goes. when i bought the jeep it was just shoved in the frame rails held in by nothing. is there a strap for it or does it just rest on the cover? its a 74 CJ5 if that matters

Not sure which you have. Early models have the tank under the drivers seat and held in place with straps. Later models are located under the rear of the vehicle and are held in place by brackets and bolts.

It's basically cradeled in the skid plate with bolts along the front and rear on frame rails. there is a strap over the top holding it onto the skid plate.
