so just wanting a little more info I have searched and couldn't seem to find the answer I was looking .... in the speedometer cluster the fuel gauge has a built in voltage regulator that feeds the coolant temp sensor correct ...... at least this is how I have been reading ... my question is if that is correct all the other gauges oil tach and such all 6volt to..... and is it possible to use a resistor to drop the voltage for the fuel and temp gauges if the regulator is bad thanks for the help

No. The regulator is designed to send out power in pulses. Why? To prevent the gauges from reacting to every dip and bump in the road. I.E. your reading is more accurate by averaging than it would be otherwise.
