Can anyone tell me the name of this part? It fits somewhere outside of the hub (i think). Thanks.

looks like it should be part of the lockout

That is what I thought. This came off of a 1972 CJ5 . I pulled a locking hub off of a 1979 and I could not identify the part inside.

Looks like some stuff I was looking at from the salt water dump leg of a separator this morning.

I can't identify the part, but I would recommend a corrosion inhibition program when you replace it!!!:chug:

To me that looks like a part out of an automatic locking hub, not a regular manual hub.

I could be wrong.

Ditto

It's a one way roller clutch. All polaris 4x4 ATVs have them too, but smaller.

They don't work we'll in reverse.

I would fine a set of manual lockouts. I don't think they offer them in 72 OEM or after market.

:D

It's a telefunken U47. :)

Looks like a set of "free-lock" auto locking hubs do you have a pic of the lockout?

Halfway down you will see a warn advertisement for lockomatic hubs and the description of how they work. Nice find. It's the red and white brochure describing several types of warn hubs lock-o-matics are described in there.

Incredible! Mystery solved. Thanks so much. This is a 1972 CJ5 and it is beyond rough. I bought it sight unseen off of craigslist and have been regretting it since. My goal at this point is to get it to the point of a good rolling chasis so that someone else can take over.
