Do did you actually open up the Transmission and look inside, or just remove the Transmission tunnel cover on the floor?
No I have not opened the tranny, just the inspection cover. As stated everything is original and unmolested so I won't open it up unless it is absolutely necessary.

Going to do all the fluids first and see if it fixes the problem.

I'm sorry but after reading this thread it seams like nobody read this part and everyone is saying check your oil levels. It started when he hit a bump do you not think maybe that knocked something out of alignment? I would be checking mounts, driveshaft and rear end. IMO
It wasn't a big bump and the first few posts told me to check the eng, granny, and skid plate bolts..... Which I have done.

So far what I have figured out is that my Transmission is ok on fluid (full and good looking fluid).
My Transfer Case is another story, it was a full quart low (of the 1.9 qts its supposed to hold).
I have not tried to start it up yet to see if all is well as I put the entire jeep up on jacks to work on things and fell into the "well as long as I am down here" hole......
Went to replace my in line fuel filter, soaked myself and a towel in gas just to find out the replacement I had was the wrong size.

Will fire it up tomorrow and see if I have fixed it or not.

YUP-Look for slop/play in the U-joints & yoke straps. There shouldn't be any.
For the T-5 oil-use 75W-90 syn tranny oil.

You can also use it for the t'case.

Well, I'm at a loss. My tc was a quart low of oil but filling it did nothing to fix the problem.
I've got the jeep on 4 jackstands in the garage and with it running in gear it appears to be coming from either the bellhousing, tranny, or Transfer Case .
Anyone have a way for me to isolate and narrow down the problem I'm all ears.
I may have to completely tear out my granny and Transfer Case that are all original and never been removed before.
The Transmission seems to shift fine and go through all gears.
Could it be the flywheel / clutch?

I have used a stethoscope to try and narrow down locations of problems.
That's so funny, just logged back in to see if there was a response after I got online and bought a stethescope!
If all else fails I will have a shop diagnose the problem for me and ill do the repair myself. As you might have gathered from my previous posts I'm not the most mechanically inclined but I love wrenching on my jeep myself.

While you have it up on jack stands start it up and run it up to when you have a problem and check for movement in the driveshaft and rear wheels.

It is definitely coming from the bellhousing. The Transfer Case is fine although it does appear to be leaking oil.
The driveshafts, eng and tranny mounts along w the skid plate all all solid.
The Transmission shifts smoothly through all gears so it appears to be a flywheel itch problem.

An old trick is to use a big flat-tip screwdriver instead of the stethoscope. Put the blade on the bellhouseing / Transmission / tc / valve cover.. etc and your ear against the ball end on the handle. You will hear what's going on just like you would with a stethoscope and you probably already have a screwdriver.

I have a different Transmission but mine had the same symptoms. Input shaft bearing. Right on the front of the Transmission . Good luck.
So what was the fix, just replace the bearing or a tranny rebuild?

I rebuilt it. The bearing is pressed into the front of the Transmission . Figured since I had to go in might as well rebuild it.

I have the replacement clutch and flywheel..... Ready to go
Going to tackle the rear main seal and leaking tc seal while I'm at it,

Good luck. Wasn't too bad. Did the Transfer Case at the same time. Take pictures during disassembly. YouTube helped also.

I'm in the middle of my clutch replacement and encountered a problem.
The roller style pilot bearing won't budge! I've tried the grease method, no go.
I've rented a puller from oreillys but both arms won't fit and I can't get enough leverage w one.
The bearing doesn't appear to be fouled or damaged, and my luk replacement clutch only came with a brass insert vs the roller bearing.
Instead of tearing this thing up to put in the brass replacement should I just leave it and put the new parts in?

There are a lot of YouTube videos on this. The main thing you need to use a bolt that fits pretty snug so the grease is not being forced out around it and you need to keep adding more each time you bottom it out. I would use the new one. you can get it out just work at it.

I watched all the videos and had 2 others look at it.
Ultimately the consensus is that the existing needle style bearing that hasn't moved or been damaged is superior to the bronze bushing that came with the replacement clutch kit.
So I'm going to leave it in and move forward with the new clutch install.

Good news is that the others were in agreement that the throw out bearing was in fact my issue that lead to the tear out of everything.
