okay,so i took my valve cover off, rotated the motor until isaw the intake valves on#1 cylinder move felt pressure coming out spark plug hole and inserted a small screwdriver in the hole.rotated motor until screwdriver came up and the piston came in contact with the screwdriver.not really knowing what to do next.i took the cap off the distributer and the rotor is pointing to the number 5 plug wire. Its like 180deg off from my #1 plug.Am i doing this right? and how do iget it where it needs to be? thanks again....

You should have seen the intake valve close, and the piston should be at its highest point. ie. you should have felt the screwdriver being pushed up till it started to go down. Is this what you did?

well i couldn't pull the screwdriver out so i figured that the piston was up and putting pressure on it so i just stopped right there...

You want to be holding the screwdriver to feel the piston coming up
It should not get stuck. It's really kind of a two man job.
Using a piston stop is really a better idea it's easier and more accurate.
