One thing that sets us off from the rest of the "jeep" crowd(I use the jeep term very loosely - notice no capitalization) is our desire to make our Jeeps our own by making and fabricating it to exactly what we want, not going to the latest catalog and ordering a bolt on part.
Two things I am dreaming up right now are:
1. A rear bumper made of tubing that can double as an air tank with a receiver hitch and d ring mounts.
2. Mini "tool" boxes on the floor in the space between the seat brackets and the outside rocker panel.
What are you guys dreaming up or better yet, pics of some fabricated stuff would be awesome. :notworthy: :chug:

Just finished up making my sliders. I only tacked them together, then had them professionally welded, since it's part of my cage tie-in.

That's cool.
My backround is in woodworking so I don't know much about metal other than what I learned in shop in high school. I just purchased an angle grinder and am slowly learning. I have only used a stick welder in the past and I would consider myself a 50/50 welder. 50% of the time it stayed together, 50% of the time it didn't. My employer has a mig that I can borrow and am excited to try out.:chug:

What happened to my pics in my above post, they aren't showing up for me? And I can't edit the post.

I have no idea. I saw them earlier this morning - now they are gone.:mad:

:)Rear bumper / Air Tank ?...........built a few......can be sealed up holds just short of 2 gallons of air.....but keeping it clean inside and rust & scale free can be an issue.....needs to have an easily removable filter for cleaning.

Spray the interior with Eastwood's Internal Frame Paint. It puts a phenolic resin coating down that will seal the metal from the air and moisture. It comes with a 24" hose and conical spray tip.

Thanks PA , I have used it in the past.........the problem is finishing that final weld and having the ability to clean all the debri, grindings, slag so that it doesn't end up in your air line down the road........Its just a PITA.

First off I had built (I have no welder or skills) down at the local HVAC/sheet metal shop a tool box, spare tire carrier support, rear speaker bass box that bolts down in place of the rear seat (as if anyone but pygmies can fit back there in a CJ5 ).

The next semi homemade thing 'Black Betty' got was the Ford/Merc Contour fan upgrade. Sure made a difference in the summer.

I have done various things. Some copies of others and some just do.

My front bumper is simple rock crawler style. I used 3"x3"x 3/8" angle iron. Tapered ends to just inside tires and mounted tow hooks.

Built a chromo ladder bar with Heim joint to flex. Built a basic truss and ladder bar mount for axle.

Was moving shocks off ubolt plates to extend and realized I had cracked a plate so I cut out and drilled new ones out of 3/8" steel.

Cut drop down for transfer out of skid plate and welded a flat piece in place. Clocked transfer up a couple inches. Didn't want to go full flat belly and have to beat floor pan or cut out but this gave some additional clearance.

Pics are in my Sig and some in gallery if anyone is interested.

Let me try this again and see if the pics stay this time. My sliders:

okay, it worked for a while then it was gone, in fact deleted. There are no rules against posting pics hosted on another Jeep site and I got no message from a mod saying theres an issue. So I'll try one more time, 3 ways.

links don't work, guess I'm done posting pics on this site!

Heres a HiLift jack holder I made for mounting to my spare tire carrier. This holds the base and the top locks it on.

OK what has changed since I was a regular here? It was told to us by CJ himself that posting links form another site was allowed and accepted here. Granted I haven'
t been on here in a long time so maybe I've missed something, but the sharing of info was one of the great things about this site then...

I can see them on my cel but just logged in to see mylittlecj5's post from computer and can't.

I'm pretty sure (not 100%) that they will no longer let you link to other sites anymore. So who knows, they might not let the pic's be linked out either.
Correct me if I'm wrong, as I don't spend much time over there.

That's just weird. Now I can see the pics of the sliders. The other pics of the jack holder I deleted. Anyways, I sent you a pm Pete explaining it further.

Thanks. I don't know much of the technical stuff that makes the site run. I do know that your explanation of how you go about posting your pics will be helpful. I'll pass the info on and let you know. You do have gallery space here by the way.

I need to redesign the rear tire carrier:

JeepBumper001.webp

JeepBumper002.webp

I want places to secure:
Shovel
Axe
Highlift Jack
Two Jerry cans
Large cooler
Bicycles
Flood lights
.50 Cal M2

Oh... And the spare tire.

Just the usual stuff for a weekend in the boonies...
