1984 CJ-7 Laredo (no modifications)
(straight -6) 258. Engine is original.
no major changes except tune up stuff
Manual - 5 speed (4x4)
My original defroster hose crumbled last week. I just received it replacement. See picture.
I tried to reconnect, but no luck. It is very tight. Looks like my radio is in the way and maybe some other items as well.

Does anyone have any suggestion on the best way to attached this hose?

My hands are just too big.

Pulling the dash is not nearly as hard as it looks. Make sure you have a good, high quality torx bit to remove the bolts. I use an impact driver, one of the things that you hit with a hammer to loosen frozen bolts. An air impact will strip a torx head is a heart beat. An allen wrench will strip a torx head and a cheep torx bit is less than useless.

Once you have the dash pulled out for the first time it is a walk in the park from then on. When you can pull it out a couple of inches and hang the passengers end with a wire from the windshield the defrost hose and the instruments and wiring become so much easier.:D
 
That pic looks like the air cleaner snorkel for the later model CJs to me. Unless the two are similar?

Thats what I was thinking as well. I havent been behind that area of the dash much though.
 
I bought the replacement for mine from Oreilly auto "by the foot". It is expensive, for what it is, but it can be had.:D

It looks like the cheap Omix on I got years ago. Mine was a pain as it fit tighter than a condom.

Stop buying "Small". For Christsake at your age what are you wearing a condom for anyway? And the best part would be that your trusting your junk to Omix Ada? Good luck my friend. Nothings going to fit comfortably thats for sure. I'll move this to the Jokes THREAD :)

If you roll them down to the serial number they fit much better.:cool:

Yes. They are similar.
jeepsrule, Did you get all of the old one off? They do fit rather tight when all is good. Make sure that the fiber on the new one doesn't fold inside itself when you slide it on. pulling the dash will help a lot. Especialy if you've never done it before.

I did get all of the old piece removed and cleaned up the mess it made. I will be waiting until this weekend to tackle the job, and see if I have the proper quality tool to remove the bolts connecting the dash. Only other thought I had was try to remove the radio completely and see if that helps in creating space for my
arms and hands to reach all the way up there. Will take a picture once done.
I also just added the YJ vent connector to shoot the heat to the driver and passenger's feet. Once this is done I am going to look at upgrading the to the blazer blower this summer, when I have more time and longer sunny days.

Lastly... I just also received the Streetfire and the High vibration coil for MSD.

I am not sure when I install it because I am still working out getting the engine to run smooth. I just replaced a lot of vacuum hoses, and still have a lot more to go. Once Spring Season arrives, I will have more time to work with this 30 year old awesome Jeep! -- really starting to consider a complete rebuild/frame off.. Every where I look on this jeep it needs attention. Keith did an amazing job with his rebuild. Maybe I will just enjoy it this Spring and Summer, then start the rebuild process in the Fall. My jeep has very little rust, but has 30 years of parts that need to be fix/replaced.
 
If you're patient enough, You should be able to get it with the radio out.
 
I did it! I took the radio out along with seats / console. Top part was difficult to connect but working it from the passenger side helped. Thank you for all the advise!!!! On to the next thing that needs fixed.
 
On my Jeep th would be the fresh air intake from the vent in the hood. The defroster hose is smaller ~2"
