Hey guys, while I'm waiting on engine parts I was thinking about going through my AMC20 . Anybody have a trick to tell if the 1 piece swap has been completed? I've already done the brakes (should have waited) and the cover is off. Thank.

No trick, if it has a nut on the end of the shaft it's a 2 piece shaft.

It is behind a dust cover, I'll pull it off tomorrow to see what I have.

I pulled the dust cap off, and sure enough I still have 2-piece shafts. I was really hoping the PO had done the swap. Ohh well. WOils it be beneficial to pull the axle to do the swap or leave it bolted to the jeep? I'm think for access it would be better out, but if any prying is needed I might want it in the jeep still. I'm still reading through the JP article, and still looking into funds to do the project.

No need to remove the axle housing. Fairly simple to replace axle shafts with rear wheels off the ground.

I think I'd grind the rust off that thing and paint it black or possibly silver to match your rims.

I think I did at one point paint them black. That was a picture from the day the Cj was shipped to my driveway. I actually cant remember.

What holds the one piece axle in. Do they have c clips like a chevy 10 bolt or do they have pressed on bearings like c clip elimanators.

The bearing and retaining collar.
