The oem Dana 44 covers for the rear end are a bit on the thin side, the factory makes a thicker walled version for the the front, both are made from stamped steel. I would suggest a stamped steel versus a cast metal as the cast metal can break and the stamped steel will just bend if you whack it on a rock. As far as the two you suggested, I haven't a clue, I use the the heavy duty oem version.

I've seen a number of welded covers around lately. Steel plate welded like a turtle shell. You'd have to show a lot of hate to break or even bend one.

I have always liked the rockcrusher covers. It takes alot to crack one. My buddy is running the BTF cover, and he has backed into many rocks with no issues at all. He bought the one already welded and says he would buy it that way again, and he is a welder by trade....it was worth the extra money.

If you want a decent 44 cover on the cheap, find one of the thick steel stock covers used on the Scout II's. They can take a pretty good wumping and are still relatively light.

I like the fabricated steel covers........totally bullet proof!
Dan at RuffStuff here in California I think builds one of the best.....3/8" plate welded together......attached to a 3/8" ring and then machined flat in house with a 1" fill plug.

I ended up ordering a Blue Torch Flame. It's 3/8 steel ring with 1/4 steel plate.
