I am hoping this will be a good place for general ranting as I work through the process of this CJ2a rebuild. When I purchased her off ebay (yes ebay) 2 years ago, the plan was to have a good project for my sons and I to work on. Well the boys do not seem very interested so I plan to soldier on myself.

At this stage I have the frame stripped of all parts, cleaned and primed. I am now working on the front and rear axles so I can re-attach them to the frame and cet a rolling chassis as soon as possible.

For the age of the car I was impressed by how few fasteners needed to be cut off. Most I was able to unthread. The frame although covered in surface rust had no majot rust issues at all.

It's a shame your boy are not interested in helping you, as it would be a good project for you all. Glad to hear the frame is still in good shape, as all the rest can be repaired or replaced. Have fun with it.

I think once aall of the dirt is off and I am putting it back together they will have more interest. I have a picture of my dad in a jeep when he was in the service. I plan to restore it to look like dads jeed down to the Ace of Spades playing card he said he had to use as a carb gasget.

I loved working on cars with my pop, although his ability was not really large mechanically, he would buy old bombs and we would do a lot of body work and clean them up so he would drive them a while till offered money for them. I think he just liked cleaning up old cars. Anyway that evolved till I started a full frame up rebuild in high school. I must say mom was patient as it never got finished. Soon I had taken an auto mechanical course and was rebuilding a old 65 Jeep Tux. Keep inviting the kids, they may take a lot more interest when it starts to look like less help. Once hooked they will jump in earlier next time.
