I've been in the market for a winch and was looking at getting one of the new Quadratec 8000lb models when I had the chance. I found someone selling a 10,000lb Rand winch for $200 which is the right price. It's in almost new shape and looks very clean, comes with "everything". For the time being I'm assuming that to mean just the mounting hardware and cable. I can't find any information on Rand truck winches except for industrial air winches. He sent me a picture and it looks like a regular truck winch with battery connections, etc. Anyone have any guidance?

I would suggest finding out more info on the Rand before purchasing it, like is it set up for the Jeep which requires a specific mount. Also get other info like 12 volt amp draw and line speed. I have never heard of or seen them on a Jeep.

another big question is, are you going to be able to get parts for it if something breaks or burns out.
I've never heard of or seen one either, so I have no good info for ya.

Turns out it is this model:

9500 LB Electric Winch Kit by Custom

The catch is it doesn't have a clutch lever with it and as you stated previously, I can't even find a manufacturer's info page on this guy. The winch should still work with the unwind on the controls, but it would be slow and a pain in the ***. $200 for a $550 winch is still a great deal and right up my alley budget wise.

Do most winches use a generic clutch lever design or are they all brand / model specific? I'm wondering if I could put a "lowest bidder" lever on here and call it a day.

the one in the link you showed has a clutch release. It's on the right side. I was given a ramsey winch, 3000 with no clutch, it's an industrial winch like on a light weight lift. If it exactly like the one in the pic then i'd jump on it.
