Intake Manifold Heater?..Electrical Question?

Hello People,


I need to know some specifics about the heater element that is inside the intake manifold?
I have wired it up properly with a 40amp relay, the element draws more than 25amp and blew the fuse.

I am looking for specs on this internal heater element....

1. What is the resistance of the element?
2. What is the power output of the element?
3. What is the Amperage draw of the element?
4. Where can I get another one?

The manifold heater's purpose in life is to heat the fuel mixture to aid vaporization when the engine is started at temperatures below 160° F. It replaces the common exhaust manifold heat riser valve. The heater itself is in the intake manifold under the carburetor. What is pictured here is the thermal switch that operates it. The switch is in the intake manifold's water jacket toward the rear. The green wire goes to a relay that is taped to the main wiring harness against the firewall. The red wire you see goes from the relay back to the heater. You should find 12 volts at this red wire, but only while the engine is warming up. The resistance between the red wire and ground is around 1 ohm, making the heater roughly a 200 watt unit. This heater is independent of the computer, and is not controlled by it.

200 watts divided by 12 volts = 16.6 amps draw. If your smokin a 25 amp fuse then as you said it sounds shorted out. Where to get one...Try a jeep wreckin yard of maybe Collins Bros in Texas has a used one you can get.

Thanks for the reply back, I just wanted to make sure about the correct numbers for the heater element.
Is Collins Bros online, I will check, anywhere else???
