I am having nothing but problems trying to install my stock intake manifold on my 78 CJ5 with the AMC 304 V8 engine. It's impossible to line up the Valley Pan Gasket with the manifold. It seems as though the bolt holes are a little off.
Any tips? Articles? I am at my wits end. Help!!!!

I hope you have the correct valley pan gasket, there is a difference between the bolt patterns on the intakes from the 70s and 80s

I know that must be super frustrating with that heavy intake

does the pan gasket line up with the bolt holes in the heads?

has the heads been milled alot like .060"?

is there a change you have made like swapping heads, rebuilding engine, intake swap?

It is usually not to hard other than lifting that heavy intake and dropping it in place without smudging the rtv to much,

I like to glue the end seals to the block and let them set for a little whle to get tacky so they dont move when the intake goes on top of them. I like to use rtv on both sides of the valley pan around the water jackets and then lower the intake down on top of it trying not to have to move it much once in place, drop all the bolts in place and run them in by hand a few turns before trying to tighten them all up loosely then torque per mainntenence manual

Thanks Gert for your response. I did use the 96011 Valley Pan Gasket, used the RTV sealant. The engine was rebuilt many years ago. The Intake Manifold is a replacement. The one that came off had a crack where the Heater Hose goes into it. The heads are stock. I have tried a lot of different methods to line it up. your right about the weight of this manifold. Heavy !!!

So if you drop the intake on with no gasket does the intake bolt holes line up with the head?

If you are having this much trouble you might need to slot the holes on your intake.

Yes, without the gasket in place, no problem, lines right up. Have you seen where the manifold bolt holes have to be opened?

I have done it on several engines of my own because I mill my heads to get the compression ratio up for more power, maybe yours was milled as well
