1982 Jeep CJ-7 Limited - Archived Instrumented Test - Car Reviews - Car and Driver

I thought it was fun to read a CJ review from way back in the day when the Cj was still a model being produced.

I chuckled at his first paragraph. The complaints about AMC's changes to the CJ are almost exactly what I hear often when comments are made about Chrysler's Wrangler.:D

Apparently the CJ7 was too "civilized" for Jeepers in the early 80s!:chug:

lol, I keep saying that the cj died when AMC bought them.
Than again I'm old enough to remember that sad day. :D

Even in todays current Jeep reviews, It's so obvious when a blatant NON Jeep person is forced to write a review on the CJ/Wrangler....whatever. I once read a review where one of the "cons" was a lack of a dummy pedal or foot rest on the left side! Really!

But it is that desire to reach a broader customer base that will drive sales and continue for us to even have the "Jeep" brand here today. There have been a few CLOSE calls where we almost lost Jeep for good. The XJ or small Cherokee saved the brand in 1984. One good thing, is that Jeep continues to make more hard-core versions such as the Rubicon while still supplementing the rest of the line with nothing more than decal and color options to create the next "Limited Editions" of today.

I can't wait until my "Dragon edition" jk comes off back order!

I love the comment at the end of the article...

"If Jeeps become any more civilized, the macho image will be hard to sustain"

priceless...

Good article. Note that like most older articles, it's referred to as "a Jeep" or "the Jeep" which differentiated it from the other models. Nowadays people think they're all Jeeps.
