They should bolt up to the bottom of the frame.

As long as the previous owner didn't hack and weld the hell out of frame horns there should be bolt holes. They may be under the SRS hangers.

Take some pictures for us.

Hope you guys don't mind another video. Photobucket won't let me upload anymore pics without upgrading to a paid version. I don't want to do that. So to clarify. I ask in the video how the hanger for the rear of the front spring attaches to the frame. I compare it with the one that's on the back suspension of the Jeep. The back one has rivets going up through the bottom of the frame. But where the front one would have gone, there are no holes left behind where the hanger might have gone.

I also ask the question if it would be easier to keep the SRS but still go to the OME YJ conversion.

I submit for your viewing pleasure: :D

Ok. I though you were talking about the front shackle hangers

I found this..... http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=13&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjK1fvQw9XMAhVM_WMKHWgRCM4QFgh2MAw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.jeep-cj.com%2Fforums%2Ff19%2Fbolt-leaf-spring-hangers-2600%2F&usg=AFQjCNHzPzbNcssAoKejeTNEqeBWN-qEGg

Without being able to see mine, I believe they are welded at the tabs. I'll have to look and see if there are rivets on the front hangers.
If the front SRS hanger is not wide enough you will not be able to use the wrangler springs with your current setup.

I just checked out a 72 CJ5 that a neighbor down the street is selling. It has a stock suspension. The front hangers on that CJ are riveted to the frame just like the rear hanger is. The weird thing about my 84 is there are no holes in the bottom of the frame where rivets would have been removed! I'm at a loss.

But anyway, if I get an OME YJ conversion the stock hangers would have to be replaced anyway, right? So a conversion kit should come with YJ hangers and a way to attach them to the frame ... for the front and rear of the springs, correct?

Your Cj is the same year as mine....I'll double check for you.

The YJ leaf conversion retains the stock CJ spring hangers. You'll notice they are wider than the shackle hangers and are therefore wide enough for the YJ leaf packs. The front (and rear) shackle hangers are the big point of conversion for this modification.

Well that puts me back to finding stock spring hangers and figuring out how to reattach them to the frame, I guess.

A good kit will have everything you need and tell you exactly where to put it. I wouldn't worry with a search.

The spring hangers on a 84 bolt to the frame with two bolts front and rear and the one on the left front goes between the frame and steering box mount. If you buy the kit to change over to the YJ springs it should come with everything you need.

He's referring to the fixed spring hangers, not the shackle hangers...but in the end he will need to address both ends of the spring attachment points.

Vvajk, I forgot to check how mine were mounted...I'll put a sticky note on my forehead so I don't forget today

Duh sorry the fixed ones are the same size front to rear and the rear has 3" springs already and what they did up front was just use bigger bushings to get the smaller springs to work so you shouldn't need to change them.

I'm ordering the OME kit tomorrow, hopefully be here before memorial weekend. You're more than welcome to come over and check it all out after it gets installed, or during if you'd like. You can have my old springs, but I think they're better off at the scrap yard!

I might have to take you up on that, Tinman!

In my quest to figure out how to reverse the shackle reversal, I found the stock hangers I would need for the rear part of the front springs. As I've mentioned, what is so strange about my situation, is there are no left over holes in the bottom of the frame from where the original rivets would have been for mounting the hangers.

I did find that at Morris4x4.com there is a little Q&A where someone asks how to mount these hangers. This was the reply from a Morris tech:

If the factory bolt locations are still on your Jeep you will place the part on the frame to align both holes on the part with the bolt hole location on the frame. Nuts should already be inserted and tapped inside the frame for easier installation. And then you would weld the one tab located the part on the outer side of the Jeep frame. Now if on your frame there is no location to bolt this part up to, I would say either through bolt it through the frame, or try using a nutsert.

What do you guys think: nutsert or bolting all the way through the frame?

The other option would be to buy the OME 2.5" YJ springs, but just keep the SRS and just forget about re attaching the hangers and buy the wider shackles and SRS kit for the wider springs.

Any update?

I'm just about done with the OME setup, only because it took Rocky Road 6 weeks to deliver the kit! On top of that, they sent a couple of wrong parts that I had to wait for.

Bolt all the way through the frame is stronger. Adding a piece of tubing in between the frame rails will also add strength and keep from pulling the frame sections inward when you tighten the bolts down.
