K. Here's what I've got so far...

we are guys, for the most part, if it were not easy we could/would not do it.

I kinda see that. There's not really a whole lotta stuff under there- a few long, skinny pieces and a few chunky ones...

questions:

6 cyl or 8? we will need pictures of the carburetor.

there is a tag on the rear "pumpkin" of the rear axle, what does it say? Is the rear axle "pumpkin" round?

It takes years of educating yourself on this stuff you are not going to pick it up in a couple of days sorry.

Didn't say I was in a rush... got all the time in the world.

T-5 Transmission ??:D Not my first choice behind a V8 but I guess it will do.

Too bad about the engine really but you know how it goes, a guy gets a set of open end box ends for Christmas and the next thing you know he thinks he is an automotive engineer.

Looks like a V-6 to me. I dont think that fan shroud would fit in front of a V-8 and I dont see 8 spark plug wires. Correct?

I think you are right my mistake :notworthy:

Now tell me, how exactly can I look at it and know that?

You have to look at a lot of similar equipment - compare bolt patterns, casting marks, a squared off piece of housing vs a rounded piece of housing etc - to begin building neuro pathways that help you differentiate similar items.

You'll need visual exposure to a lot of Jeeps in order to begin recognizing things "just like that <snap fingers>."

Maybe take pictures, print 'em and use 'em like flash cards.

As they said, it does take time and experience, not that you couldn't do that but it does take time. These may help you to learn some of these things.
