jeep cj5 good first car

jeep cj5 good first car
Well, 36-20 = 16 but a 16 year old shouldn’t be driving a CJ5 purely based on lack of driving experience. A CJ5 tends to roll easily and even though I had given my 16 year old daughter proper instruction on how to drive a CJ5 and keep it on all fours all it took was a swerve to miss a dog in the road at the jeep was on its side. The good news was that my daughter lived.
Sorry to hear about that. But if any animal gets in my way from what I've been taught, even if its cruel, is to hit and not swerve. And not to go to fast becuse how little I drove it felt like it was going to tip. So all I need to do is drive like a old man and I think i should be fine

We actually use that information to formulate almost all the answers to your questions. Many people h ave said it and many people are wrong, all Jeeps are NOT the same, they are similar, but it's the small differances that can make things frustrating. You can be specific about your Jeep and not so specific about yourself. For instance the state you live in, but not necessarily the town/city.

:) Animals in the road. I have always believed that a $1.98 cat will never be worth a $10,000 automobile. However in practice, if a dog or something bigger suddenly jumps out in front of you, instinct makes you swerve more than thought.

Sell the Jeep and the car. Get a car that gets better mileage. Come back when your ready.

Thats true but I was just wondering. Sense my jeep is all original, never restored, no lose parts(as i know) and one or two little spots of rust. Also, the location on there is incorrect. I learnd from my school NEVER post real location.

Thanks

No gas mileage is nothing to me relly sense both the cars where cheap (under 4000 and resale for the car is :dung: ) and for the jeep I will not drive it often because it could be easly stolen(but the thing were ever i look i can't find one as cheap or as good as the condition of my jeep)

True, addresses are bad. My daughter always seemed like an intellegent person. One day she appeared with a new hoodie, after questioning her it turned out that someone on the internet offered to get one for her so she sent her address. That was many years ago and luckily the person was sincere in her offer, but man, you just never know.

When yo go to register it you'll find out if it was stolen or not.

One thing you'll learn as you get older, the purchase price is frequently not the most expensive part about owning something, be that house, vehicle and most notably, a boat. Taxes, registration fees, keeping up with mechanical issues and feeding the thing items like gas can and will hurt.

true as it may be I it will cause me to get a job and learn about mechanics. So far it's been in my family two years put 1500ish miles on it with no major repairs ever needed. Just the heater once last year

If it's been in the family for a couple years and was driven 1500 miles I must assume it's been registered. Why the reference to the possibility that it might be a stolen vehicle? Unless your parents are fully supporting you and your driving a job is a good thing to have.

He's not saying he thinks it's stolen he's saying it could be easly stolen.

Hmmmm I did need to read the line several times, but I guess I do see the meaning. A Jeep is easily stolen, so he doesn't drive it for fear of loosing it to a thief. That makes better sense to me.

Any CJ is easily stolen; if the bad guys really want your jeep most likely they are going to get it but you don’t have to make it easy. Years ago a couple of CJs disappeared from the apartment building parking lot I lived in so I slept for about a month with a burly chain locked to the front axle of my 1947 CJ2a and the other end laid through the bedroom window and wrapped around the bedpost. Not sure if that’s why the thief left my jeep alone or not; most likely they just moved on but it made me feel better anyway.

Congrats, 77AMC CJ5 , for heeding the internet safety advice you learned in school, even if it did confuse us a bit.

I was thinking about my first vehicles--old Chevy sedan delivery, '39 Dodge pickup, Bugeye Sprite (and some of the stupid things I did)--and my recommendation for a safe vehicle might be a Checker taxicab. But if you indeed drive like an old man (which is nothing more than a young man who survived) with a focus on the shortcomings of both your vehicle and your own Limited experience, I think you'll be fine.

A guy of any age who's driven nothing but plushmobiles will need to make adjustments the first time he's in any specialized vehicle, whether a tiny sports car, a box van, or a CJ. Any of them can get you killed if you're not paying attention.

You will find a CJ5 to be especially unforgiving.

The one thing about any vehicle and a new driver: you will run into situations you are not used to and your brain will write a check your *** can't cash. A CJ is poor in both situations.

lol first car 1988 gran marquis, granny owned, 157k miles when purchased, overhauled due to blown head gasket at 168k miles (my fault, ruptured heater hose) best first car in my opinion, big enough to keep you safe, hard to get rediculous in it, when you do it will teach you to respect the limits and feel whats happening instead of just mashing pedals and sawing away at the wheel (honda civic and other fwd econoboxes). that car taught me a lot about how to drive properly.

My first car was a '65 Mustang conv. ahh the chicks loved it. I was pulled over after school because I had to many people in it, there was 5 girls in the back and 3 up front with me. when I went to court the Judge said the cop says you had 8 girls in your car he must have been jealous and I told him heck I would have given him a couple if he wouldn't have given me a ticket. Oh to be a kid again.

There is things you can do to make your jeep non stealable
My Step dad (passed away) had this 75 chevy that my brother owns now (he torn it up) that was in mint shape. They was living in vegas and one night he heard the truck start up,He jump out of bed with lilbit by his side and by the time he got outside the car thief was gone.. He parks the truck with the ebrake on Transfer Case in neutral. So when they started it and put into reverse and it didnt go no where well they bailed.. But he improved the security on it he Added a switch hidden under the seat that would turn on the power to the starter on after the key was in the ignitions. then hid other one that went to a 12 Volt Fuel Shut Off Valves. so he could shut the fuel off .So if they happen to wire the truck up derby style to steal it. 3 wires all u need to do that. well they had what 50 feet of travel.. Fuel in the carb to get them to back up and move by that time it would run out of gas.. and that would leave your ride sitting till u come out.. Just some thing to think about.. i have 4 switch in mine lol everyone tells me its over kill

Coming from someone whos had a Cj stolen I appreciate this post. Adding this to the list. :chug:

Ford has a built in fuel cutoff (inertia) switch on their EEC-III vehicles:
InertiaSwitch.webp

Shown inside the Tuffy Security glove box. My plan is to replace that with a hidden switch.

In the end, if a bad guy wants your ride, they are going to get your ride. That's what I have insurance for.
