Here is what happened pulled a dumba@@ move put battery on backwards when hooked up puff of smoke in hooked and cleared out garage to access the problem! Backfeed into starter silonid only melted one wire partly to the altnator. Replaced the wire bought new starter silonid. It will start but as soon as you let off of the key it dies won't stay running? Has prior wire hacking and no brain box! Things that I have done to fix said issue:
Another new starter silonid
ICM old one was oem
pick up coil
Ignition switch
Reset key tumbler gears
Light tested ign wire from sinolid to ign switch
Spark plug test coil to dist to spark plugs
Not sure what else to do ???

battery condition check and or replace, replace alternator? Maybe.... Good luck brother

Eek!

Did you replace the battery?

You sure you didn't fry a connection in your switch? Sounds like your 'start' river of electrons is good. If it completely dies, you need to check your 'run' river. Looking at your list, it looks like you tested everything downriver of the starter switch. I have a feeling it's a little melty in there and the circuit isn't closed at the switch in the run position.

Does it actually fire up when you crank it? If it doesn't actually catch fire in the engine, then it's not (just) the switch. Could be the coil too.

Test your battery, coil, and alternator. Just to be safe, check resistance between all connections...you may have boogered something else up, too.

Sounds like the kind of :dung: I'd pull, not paying attention to what I'm doing.

Checked all that found the issue it was a wiring issue and a weak coil need to move a couple if wires and ad a relay between the starter silonid and coil. Once (Frank)my cj is running then it's the fuel tank, rearend, and bumper.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement

Awesome! Glad you figured it out. Always a good feeling.
