Jeep Wave Etiquette?

Jeep Wave Etiquette?
I wave at CJ's even if they don't. No response gets a bigger wave as it becomes training.

YJ / TJ / JK get two fingers by default and a full hand if they go first.

The way I was taught was to wave at the older Jeep first. Kinda like acknowledging that they're "your elders" and deserve respect...which they do.
I drive a TJ, hoping one day to find the right CJ. When I see a YJ, CJ, or any Willys/MB, I initiate the wave.

As it's been said earlier, the greater volume of Jeeps on the road today are leaving us with unedumacated owners who don't know about the wave. Hopefully they'll ask Siri why other Jeep owners wave lol

We're all Jeep owners, we need to stick together and be there for one another. If someone isn't into the "Jeep Life", fine...there's always gonna be someone willing to take that position :)

This is a prime example of a retail vendor blurring history for monetary gain. And SIRI..... really?? Let's ask the Geico gecko about astro physics!

I recall this topic being discussed before. Anyway, I would not recommend anyone doing any waving in the Los Angeles County, Ca. area as it might get taken as a gang signal and you might end up getting shot.

"it might get taken as a gang signal and you might end up getting shot."

Holy :dung:!!! Gang bangers are driving CJ's now? No wonder the prices on used jeeps are so high.....What lift kit do you use to fit 32" wheels under a CJ?:D

This sounds more like a Mad Libs word game.

"it might be taken as _______ and you might end up __________."

Example- This could apply to the Ozarks or Arkansas;

"it might be taken as flirting and you might end up squealing like a pig."

I only wave at other CJ and YJ owners anything newer than that they don't understand what its like to have a carberated vehicle and smell like gasoline after your drive from point A to point B :)

Didn't you know Jeep made the seven slot grill to signify jeep being the first vehicle on all seven continents??

I don't wave first anymore. Not unless I see another CJ, and that's pretty rare. I waved at an old, beat YJ the other day and got snubbed.

Ya know you all stop waving to newer Jeeps you'll become the problem rather than the solution. Particularly the ones obviously modded ones... Mom and her daughter in a Sahara won't wave. Get over it.

The solution would be people being interested in the history and preserving the legacy.

JKs, even TJs, are status symbols. And I'm done explaining and defending the "jeep wave" to people who think it's stupid.

If i get a wave they'll get a wave back.

So when I see someone blowing down the road with a $50,000 Rubicon lifted with flat fenders gas cans and a jack I should assume he's frontin and not wave? That's being a part of the problem.

I wave at everyone if i get no wave then i get no wave.

Some folks might be jealous IDK.. maybe they want a JK and cant afford to get one... i dont care.. I built my JK to conquer the trails! like MT. blanca ya know lake como .. now to me thats a status symbol!

I didnt go the rubicon route... I like my jeeps built not bought. There are plenty of Rubicon owners that want an atlas Transfer Case .. I picked up my 241OR for a $1000 then 3 weeks later bought the front Dana 44 housing from the same guy for $375.

I consider my newest CJ to be the mall crawler lol, she tools around town perfect running all my errands . now my JK shes a whole different beast, one day the 86 will be the same beast, for now shes just perfect!

The way i look at it we all bleed Jeep in one shape or form.. :chug::chug::chug:

No. I'm saying the jeep spirit is dead in the coal region of PA.

ETA: I'd love to be proven wrong.

The "wave" .... Motorcycle wave, Harley wave, "jeep wave". I love the debate, but really folks, it's just a fun acknowledgement of one enthusiast to another. What I hear in my mind is, "Hey brother have a great day." I admit that sometimes it feels like the other guy is flipping you off by not waving or playing the game as it should be played. There are very few CJ owners that don't acknowledge you CJ to CJ in one way or another. The one I like best is the eye to eye contact and a nod.

Hedge, You hit the nail on the head! Or wait you successfully removed the torx bolt.. :chug::chug::chug:

Hedge has said it the best.

"Didn't you know Jeep made the seven slot grill to signify THE jeep being the first vehicle on all seven continents??"

Yes, and I made a slight correction to your statement.:)

"The solution would be people being interested in the history and preserving the legacy."
I couldn't agree more. Then we wouldn't have these threads trying to justify waving to a stranger for no apparent reason. I think what it really comes down to, and this may hurt some feelings, is that some folks who bought a 4wd vehicle want to be part of something or feel the need to "fit in" with something they don't understand. Yet these same people are the ones who won't wave to a Compass or a Patriot or even a Gladiator if they know what that is. Hypocrisy at it's finest.

But another part of this problem that contributes to these various 4wd owners trying to commandeer a historic thing so that they fit in, is the false notion that the Wrangler model was just a continuation of the Jeep model. I know most here understand that it's not and never was intended to be but I really think theres a large portion of people out there that don't know any better. Hence the reason why in the last decade or so they refer to any 2 or 4wd Chrysler/Fiat makes as a Jeep, instead of just the actual Jeep model.

"There are very few CJ owners that don't acknowledge you CJ to CJ in one way or another.
Exactly. Because they are part of it and understand what the jeep wave was.... before the internet came along and tried to change it to their liking!

Therefore the difference between a jeep (CJ) and a JEEP (Company). I've often said, "Hey, you've got a very nice jeep like Chrysler there." or simply "Nice Chrysler." My buddy thinks one of these days I'm going to get my lights punched out. I tell him, naw, they know what I'm talking about.

Saw something that did burn my chaps. A new JEEP with a WILLYS sticker on it. I wanted to rip the darned thing off right there and then.
