Any suggestions for removing the bolt from my old leaf spring and mount, I got the nut off with my impact gun. I have hit the bolt several times with a large sledgehammer and it hasn't moved at all. I am looking at cutting the bolt out with a grinder. Any suggestions, it's coming out one way or another.

They get rusted in there real good don't they.:D
Try to get it to turn to break the rust loose.
If you can't get it that way, you will have to get the sawsall out
and cut the bolt between the spring and mount on both sides of the spring.
Usually it's the shackel bolts that are a PITA.

1st question, the impact won't turn the bolt?
2nd question did you soak it in WD40 over night??
If you cut it out be sure to remember that the spring in junk and the hanger is what you want to keep.
If you have an air chisel you can grind a point on one of the chisels and drive the bolt out that way.
I would be fireing up the saws all.

Yep my bolts and sleeve in the bushing became one even when it would turn still wouldn't come out I used a 4 1/2 inch 1/8 thick cuttoff wheel on both sides of the bushing the sparks are a little concerning and the smell was bad but it got the job done.

Yep, I soaked the bolt for 2 days and I tried the turning the nut with an impact gun and it wouldn't budge. I have a air hammer which I haven't tried yet. Last resort is my grinder with some cut off disks, don't own a sawzall yet. Everything else has gone smoothly except this stuck bolt. I got to say I love air tools, they make the job a whole lot easier.

Looks like that is what I have to do also, I don't see this bolt moving at all.

Cheers, Brian

Have a good grip on that grinder the rubber likes to grab the disk. I stayed toward the bushing side to keep from dinkin up the mount.
And be very spark aware!!

I am going to try the air hammer and that fails it's the grinder with a new cut off wheel. I will be careful of the mount. I will be an expert at removing them after the first two, then I got the rear to do. LOL. Thanks for your help.

Cheers, Brian

I got the bolt out, had to use my grinder with a cut off wheel and a cold chisel, but it's out now. Got one side done now, just waiting for my disconnects. Starting passengers side today. Having lot's of fun. Thanks for your guys help and advice.

Cheers, Brian

If your laying on your back under a vehicle riding a grinder with a cut off wheel to remove rusted hardware and your having fun, you may be a Jeep guy.

IO, I am having fun putting new hardware in and riding the grinder. lol
The nice thing is I am not in a hurry to get it done, I just want it done right so I am taking my time. I am even torquing all my bolt down to spec to boot.

At least you have a grinder to do yours. when i did my 3" kit the po had put the heads of the bolts on the rear springs against the gas tank :wtf:so i couldnt take them out without cutting them:censored::bang:. oh i forgot to mention i was doing it at my buddys house who is mechanically challenged and didnt even own a hammer. so it was done with hand tools and i cut the grade 8 bolts with a hack saw and about 4 hours:pissed:

I took an air chisel to mine, the PO had done the same thing.
about 3 minutes and they were off
I tend to put to much time away to do a project as I know what I can run into, I can do a lift in an afternoon, but if I run into problems it can take 2 weekends. Like on the 70, I first weekend I found out the front passenger u bolts were the wrong ones, so having waited till the afternoon I had to wait till the next weekend to get the correct bolts, when I got home I saw the rear shackle bolt problem and had no good bits for my air chisel, I had already drank 2 beers so I waited till the next morning to run for new bits. So that is why a afternoon project took 2 weekends.
