Lockup on a soft top?

So i'm sorry if this its already a thread somewhere, the tap a talk search function on my phone stalls out.

I'm the type of person that likes to be prepared. I keep my "Jeep" tools, jumper cables, lil air compressor, basically things one might need, with me at all times. Well someone broke into the wives car while I was at work a couple days ago and it got me thinking. If I was home and didn't hear them I would have lost way too much money in tools. This is not an option.
I usually keep my things in ammo cans secured with ratchet straps. That keeps things from sliding around but not theft proof.

I pulled out some old chain and bought some "eye straps" and got things in place good enough for now. I can get the chain tight enough to not be able to open the cans.

But I'm curious if anyone is crafty out there in CJ land and has come up with a neat way to lock up the stuff behind your back seat.

Here's a pic of what I have for now. I see I have room for one more can..

I set up a system with a couple padlock hasps in the back of my CJ at one time.
Took a piece of 1/8"x1.5" strap and welded the eyes of the hasp (where the padlock would go thru) to the strap, and bolted the hinged part to the wheel well of the Jeep. Then I could run the strap thru the handles of the ammo cans and lock it in place with a pair of keyed-alike padlocks.
Wasn't the perfect system, and needed a lot of bugs worked out, but maybe it will get you thinking...

I am sure you could do something a little prettier than this.

Yes those are cobwebs, this was way back on a shelf for a really long time.

attaching them to the floor should be reasonably easy. It does seem as it would be a lot easier if you were just using one size of box.

I would suggest something, anything, that would secure your gas can. Having that thing rolling around could become real exciting real fast.

there are lots of options there and not a real bad idea to mount it on the outside.

Gas can is secure. It will not be a permanent fixture there, just put in a new tank, hoses, sending unit, and little box for the nozzle and my brand new sending unit doesn't work so that is just there till I decide to drop the tank again and fix it.

I like how you bolted through the can. I have made a few by welding a piece of round stock that I worked down and drilled a hole for a lock in. But it is a pita to not burn through an ammo can..

I made a board that goes from wheel well to wheel well and locks into the slope on the seat and the tailgate.

It means I can put tools etc in there they are out of sight and more importantly can not fly forward and hit someone in the head in an accident and a hole drilled in the tyre carrier latch allows a padlock to lock it up not completely secure but more then the average opportunity thief will deal with
