I'm looking at a CJ at an auction tomarrow. It is an old county Jeep, but I'm confused about the vin.. there is a plate but no paper work.

The vin is 1jcbm85e5bt..... Everything I find says the jeep is an 84 CJ5 , which is quit strange since they stopped making them in 1983.

Is this something that was made for Government use back in the olden days or is something afoot at the Circle-K

If this is a rare CJ I'll pick it up. If not I won't buy it for the simple fact that here in Ca. we have smog laws and anything over 1975 has to be smogged, and I dont feel like messing with it. Thanks

I see what I did. Thanks for the help guys. I'm still thinking about buying it if I can get it for the right price. No holes and just surface rust. Might make a great summer project for a new hunting rig. There is also an old Willy's out there that I'm gonna try to get.
