Ok so here are some camera phone pics of my new toys:
And my freebie 33x12.50x15 tires
Its not much but its all mine and so far hasn't cost me a dime!!
I am selling my ZJ to help the family out, so have the green light to build this frankenjeep from the wife In fact my son maybe buying my ZJ and then selling his ZJ to help pay for it. Which would be cool, then I'd still get to see my ZJ from time to time and have my YJ/CJ project!! Have to wait and talk some more when hes home from work tonight.
So what ya all think??
I think that if you are going to make one project out of it, you are going to have to shorten/lengthen one of them.
If you are going to use the YJ base and put CJ parts on it, you are going to have to account for some minotr differences in the YJ frame.
Anything is possible, it just takes time to lay it all out.
Being free is the best part!
Ok the plan is this so far, but as I have been finding this is subject to change at any time:
-I am going to use the YJ tub, windshield, frame, wiring harness, sport cage, springs, 4.0L and related accesseries, a999 Auto, springs, steering box and suspension.
-I am using the CJ title, dash, and entire front clip.
-for now I am going to run the YJ Dana 30 and 35 axles and 231 Transfer Case as the YJ frame is wider and the springs sit 4" further apart then the CJ's. So the narrow track axles are not going to work with the YJ stuff and my deal for wide track axles kind of fell through.
-I plan to get a waggy Dana 44 for the front and already am working on a deal for a scout Dana 44 for the rear. I then plan to find a Dana 300 for in it if I get a passenger drop Waggy 44 or use the 231 if I get a Drivers side drop Dana 44 .
- might use the CJ tailgate, have to size it up yet.
-plan on eventually getting 4" of lift a 1" body mounts and running my 33x12.5's. Also plan on running recessed taillights, making rocker armor, corner armor and making some bumpers for it.
-this is going to be a street driven weekend toy with the ability to take it trail riding without issues.
here are some questions I need help with:::
My debates are: if I stick with spring under do I do a u-bolt flip? What about a shackle reversal for the front(anyone running this)? How about revolver shackles, they look scary in my opinion, do they work and are they ok on the street? Should I run boomerang shackles in the back?
I was thinking of doing a SOA set up, but that looks more expensive and I have been told that its not very street friendly, what do ya think?
I really need this to be a good all around rig, decent on the street and on the moderate trails. I am not a big rock climber and don't wheel often so keep this in mind. THANKS!!
I have a shackle conversion on my CJ5 and it seems to work just fine, contrary to most people's opinion...I may do one for the CJ7 as well.
If you are going to stay SUA, do the U-bolt flip. It'll give you that little bit of clearance that you will need that one time...Both of mine will get them soon enough.
To bad your not closer, I'd sell you the WT axles and the Dana 300 I have under the 7. I won't be re-using the axles. The 300 case I'm not sure about.
The boomerang shackles are for the wrangler. Because of the different way the springs mount. I run the shackle reversal on my Scrambler. I love it. Between the SR & Highsteer it's hands free at 100mph.
Cool, thanks guys really appreciate the input!! Got a free Hardtop for the YJ last night. A guy posted up that it was free to first caller on another Forum I frequent. Turns out he was only like 2 miles from my work, so last night ran over and picked it up, Its in awesome shape!! He is building a trail only YJ and did not have the space to store the hard top so just wanted gone ASAP!! Now I just need to find some full steel hard doors for it and its set for winter wheeling!!
Seriously, check out ebaymotors, there was a CJ7 listed on there from NJ that had a buy it now of around $600 for the whole thing. The driveline was out of it, but the tub lookedlike it was in decent shape. It actually is listed as a CJ5 , but the pics are of a CJ7 . Hope its still there!!
As for Pa being good deals, depends on what you are looking for! Luckilly I have been at the right place at the right time lately!! Especially beings I am flat broke I will post some pics of the hardtopped YJ this weekend and hope to try and arrange the CJ to come home in two weeks
thats probably the one that got me talking to my buddy thats headed up that way soon...he says he will have an empty flatbed trailer on the way home so I figured why not?
I'll head to ebay and see if I can find it..
No pics of the hardtop install yet, was too busy this weekend Had to have my last cat put to sleep on saturday It stinks big time, but it was for the best. Miss him though he was my little buddy for 13 years . But thats the down side to pets, we usually out live them.
Wife had a good mothers day though, all things concidered, me and the boys(3 sons) spent all day running around doing and going where ever she wanted, She loved it!!
Did find out that the soft upper doors I have won't work with the hard top So now the search is on for hard doors!
