I am looking to buy my second cj i had a CJ5 with a v8 and a stick and it was lifted and it was all over the road i was 14 and had to sell it was never tagged so now i"m looking to buy my second one and dont know if i want a 5 or a 7 or if i want a six cylinder or a v8 i know i want a stick and i want to use it as a daily driver so i want it to be nice i drive 17 miles one direction to work so its not that bad and my wife has a new vehicle for long trips so anyone have any input on this

Engine size is personal preference, I have the inline 6 and love it.

Oh yea, get a 7.

I cant say about gas mileage as I haven't had a cj with a V8. My inline 6 is fuel injected and I have been getting about 22 mpg. As far as gear ratio, what are your plans for it?

To me either the 5 or 7 will do. I used a 1972 CJ5 as a daily driver for some time when I was your age and had no problems. Yes the 7 has more room and if you want to put a hardtop on it, tops for 7s can be found a lot easier and cheaper than for the 5. (The 5 didn’t have a OEM hardtop per say but the 7 did with hard doors and roll up windows.) As far as motors, the I6 will be a cheaper to run than the V8 of course and the I6 will have great low end torque but the V8 will have more brute power. I would go with which ever jeep you find that is in the best shape with the most goodies for the money. Owning a CJ is a labor of love, not an investment.

I bought a CJ7 with a 2.5l and am very satisfied with it.

Make sure what ever you get has power steering. In retrospect I would probably looked for one that had already been restored because it cost a lot to do one if you don't have the skills yourself. Specifically body work.

If fuel efficiency is important, you need to know what gear ration and Transmission is in it.

Not sure the motor and I want descant gears so I could maybe drive from Frederick md to ocean city but still have some *** behind it to off road some
