Low back or high back seat?

I like the look of low backs, I have high back but need to reupholster so I am considering changing out. What do you have and what do you like or dislike about them?

I have two cj's, one has low back, and the other high. I use the low seats in my hunting rig and really like them. They are comfortable and offer alot of room on the interior. I have the high backs in my other jeep because I feel safer if someone rear ends me on the road My hunting rig never sees pavement.

I like mid-back. Basically a high-back with the head rest removed. I couldn't say if that's a safe option though.

I'm not a fan of whiplash so it's high backs for me.

I have highbacks and I like them. However the aluminum frame in them can fracture and break, low on the vertical leg, door side.

Those are nice seats but a bear getting over if you have much of a lift. My buddy had them and they hurt, especially once worn some and torn (from sliding over), you will crush your manhood sliding over the lip too .
Not trying to down them, they are very nice, safe and have a purpose for sure.


I am considering low backs since the only time my Jeep is on the road is for pleasure and to get to a trail or camp. I was wondering though, for anyone that has them, does your back hurt from having nothing to lean back on?

I won't argue that the high backs are safer in a rear end incident. However if I can't get my big tookus in the drivers seat in the first place it is kind of a irrelevant point.I looked at and set in and measured a lot of after market and pull out seats and could not find anything that was as comfortable and easy to get in and out of as the originals. In my case the originals were just like 70s and 80s chevy work van seats. As some of us know getting in and out of a CJ5 can be a challenge, especially if you are a 6'3" grey haired old fat guy. I needed all the help I could get, good reason to install a tilt wheel as well.
