1983 CJ7 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , T-5 , Dana 300 , 3.31 gears, appears to be all original, relatively unmolested. It is kind of a turd, however. Bought it knowing that it might have engine problems, found 5 bent intake pushrods after i got home and started tinkering. I have a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l sitting in the shop that was a fresh rebuild on a block that was discovered to have cracked water jackets (after the rebuild), so it is low miles. Going to mix and match the two engines and see if i cant make 1 good one. Has rusty floor pans and rust under the JEEP logo area on both sides. Also thinking about swapping in a T19 (5.11 first gear model) that I have sitting in the shop. Probably going to add junkyard TBI injection to it also. Who knows what else.

Looks like a good one to take out and wheel and not have to worry about a couple of scrapes or other misfortunes !

Looks good to me!
If that's a 10k, I have the same lift in my shop.

Good find Dave. :notworthy:
How hard did the storm hit your area?

We all need to learn not to leave a bread crumb trail consisting of $50 and $100 bills causing these things to follow us home. Looking forward to seeing the build!

Hey Dave,

It's only money.
I thought all Texans were rich - until I married one.

I am in the "panhandle" of Texas, far away from hurricane nastiness.

I suppose I need to start a 'build' thread. So far I have the engine out, head, timing cover and oil pan off. Had 5 bent intake pushrods, was expecting to see misalignment of cam and crank gear, but it is not. No witness marks on pistons indicating valve/piston contact. Not sure how pushrods got bent, 'tis a mystery. I am certain that I am the first person to open up this engine in a long time judging by grease and dirt accumulation. Cylinder bores look good, cam and lifters look great, may freshen up the head and put back together with new timing set and see what happens.

Running it with bad gas will cause the valves to get stuck and bend the push rods. You may have some frozen valves.

Well Mtnwhlr, you are correct sir, it was indeed stuck valves, pulled the valves out the evening and the five intakes with bent pushrod were all frozen solid with some varnish-like pookie in the valve guide. Thank you for the insight.
