Alright guys, I'm posting a bunch of pictures, All of this is wiring from the interior and engine bay. I have a 77 CJ7 , but it's all new wiring, well... it's the updated wiring harness. I believe it's from the 85's and up(Actually I have no Clue) I just replaced the completely torn up harness that was in there before, with this one that I found. Can you please tell me what all these plugs go to? This is going to be tough, at least it is for me. I have absolutely no clue, I just got this jeep 3 weeks ago, first project for me. Here goes. Good Luck!

best thing I can tell you to do is to get the factory manual from the year harness that is, and use that to trace it out,

Yeah, I have a manual. Being a newbie at this, I don't really understand how to read them. There are no pictures of those wire harness' in the manual. I was hoping that some of you(being that you have done this longer then I) would have some insight on the situation. Thanks!

hanes manuals usually have wiring diagrams
but it is kinda hard to recognize connectors off the bat
Someone with that year jeep may go out and try to identify them however,
Wiring is the Achilles heel of owning Jeep, always some PO has butchered it, or you have some thing like the rewire from a different year, did they put in the guages and accessries from that year that fit? or give up after they figured out those connectors change a lot over the years?

starting at second photo,
back up on the photo, lets see more of the harness,

3rd photo, looks like wiper, lets see more of the wires

4th combo switch (turn hazard), steering column connector

5th ignition, column top

6th not sure what you are asking on this one

7th solenoid, looks like you have replaced it with the red and blue wires, need more info in the photo.

8th larger one oil pressure, smaller could be temp or solenoid, cant tell from photo.

9th junction connector to Transmission /Transfer Case ( if it is located near head oil presser sender side) could be wiper motor need more info.

10th most likely ECU connections, need more info

11th back up on the photo

12th hard to tell, I would say washer.

Everything off the top of my head double check the wire colors with a repair manual, hit autozone.com and create an account, check repair section for wiring diagrams, its free! :D

i believe thats a harness from a CJ7 with the carter bbd i reconize some of those plugs. probably 83-86. the one in # 8 that definately goes to the oil sending unit i think its the one for the comp. the plugs in #7 aren't even hooked up on mine so i don't know. the plugs in #11 look like the plugs for the o2 sensor and and electric choke the rest no clue

You may not be very good at reading diagrams now but you are going to be REAL good at it in a couple of weeks.

Is that the dash from the 77 or from the ?? ?
Do you have a steering column?
Start looking for connectors with a certain number of pins with a given combination of wire colors and the diagram will tell you what it is and where it goes.
I don’t see an easy way on this one.
I do hope you will keep us posted on your progress and don’t be a stranger, it will be a real asset to have some one in the forum that knows as mush about electrical as your going to.

Check out the diagrams here it also has a key as to what goes where:

I don't think that's a 77 harness. I agree with CheepJeep85. I put a 84 harness in my 76 and those extra connectors are also in my harness.

Photo 2 Wiper plug to motor, in background is the TS harness plug.

Photo 3 Wiper motor Plug and Wiper Switch OR intermittent wiper Connection can be used either way

Photo 4 Turn signal connection to Turn signal switch. Be care full here as a regular 77 Turn signal plug may be 1 connector shorter. It was on my 76 when I converted over to an 84 harness.

Photo 5 Ignition Switch (Black and White), Red looks like part of the Tach connection. Should be a mate to this plug.

Photo 6 Nice photo of back of dash.

Photo 7 Are they brown and black? Could be the AC compressor or the Neutral Safety Switch. Plugs were always in harness but might not of been used.

Photo 8 Oil pressure Switch (Round) and Oil Pressure Sensor.

Photo 9 Goes to harness to the tranny for backup lights, 4wd light and NSS if equipt with auto.

Photo 10 Relay for Manifold heater, 6 pin connector for various sensor for the Computer which the 77 did not have. However one wire goes to E-choke which 77 did not have either.

Photo 11 I don't remember.. :) I have them loose on my harness. One could be for temp sensor for gauge from it's location. One maybe for the washer if it looks like dirty yellow.

Photo 12 One connector for Duraspark Ignition module. There should be another...

If you need picture of were they go let me know. I got tons of them.
