Eventually putting in a 327 into 82 CJ5 . Been told that I need to decide on a cam for it. I have no clue what to put in. Any suggestions? I plan on doing mostly street driving but I want the power when I go off road. Plus what is a good one piece axle for it?

How much money do you want to spend? A hydraulic roller will work the best because the steep ramps allow a lot more lift in a short duration profile. For off-road, you probably want to stick to something not exceeding 212 to 218 degrees at .050 in a 327. The more displacement, the bigger the cam can be and still have some bottom end torque so best not to compare to a 350.

I would opt for a mild RV grind.

Isn't a 327 a relatively high RPM short stroke beast. If it is you need to choose your cam accordingly.

3.25 x 4.00 stroke/bore and yes, they can be built to turn some big r's but they can also work well in a light Jeep with the right cam and induction. If you go down the hot rod path, you will be disappointed off-road.
