Hello all. New to the forum as you can tell by my post count lol. I ran across this form while trying to find an answer to my question and it looks like a very helpful and knowledgable place. I know my profile doesn't tell much about my jeep but since I haven't had it but just a few days I haven't gotten a chance to get all of the needed info.

With all of that said I'm hoping y'all can help me with a question that I'm sure has been beat to death but I still can't find my answer.

I've got a 1982 CJ7 with the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . When trying to change the motor mounts last night I couldn't get the holes to line up, which I haven't tried moving the Transmission side to side yet but I will this afternoon or this weekend.
I have read where the tab on one mount goes up and the other goes down. Is this correct?
Also I'm not for sure if the stud coming off the bottom of the rubber was in the correct hole of the frame bracket to start with.
The drivers side has fife holes, and the passenger side has three slotted holes.
Can someone please tell me which hole the single stud is supposed to go through on each side?
I have looked all over the net but can't seem to find that question anywhere.

Thank you all in advance for any help you can give and hopefully I haven't broken any rules yet with the way I have posted.

I got it figured out middle hole on both sides. Now it grinds when going to 3rd and 4th gotta figure that out now. I didn't drive it before doing the mounts so I'm not for sure if it was doing it or not, but I can't see why putting new mounts would have caused it to start.

:ww: Glad you got the mounts figured out.... And I think Torxhead has you headed in the right direction. By the way - you've come to the right place for good info, that's for sure :chug:

Oh - Don't worry about breaking any rules.... you posted your question right where it belonged. Better than some that have been around for a while LOL

went ahead and changed the Transmission mount yesterday hoping that might would eliminate the 3rd and 4th gear grind but bit didn't. The pedal only has 1.5"-2" of free play/slack do y'all still think it could possibly be the clutch linkage?
I also had to change the water pump last night that would have been a fairly easy project except the main belt was a pita to get off, it took me probably 20-30 min just to get the a/c compressor to rotate up so I could get enough slack to pry the belt off.

Lumpy will tell you it should be no more than 1.5" and no less than 1". Sounds like it's not completely disengaging.

Thank you i'll have to go back and readjust cause I've went what I had in yhe previous post to no slack now and now it seems to grind going into reverse. I'll have to give it a little more slack
