Motor 'spits' once in a while

Motor 'spits' once in a while
Well you said you gave it a tune up that's why I said carb, it has the symptoms, but not being there, to diagnose, we got to go by what the manual says to check, timing or carb. Keep at it and post what you do, and we will get through this.

Also I righted the fuel filter, I seem to recall the return goes on top, it was nearly horizontal. Drove the commute yesterday, Albany to Corvallis and she ran out well. The exhaust note was back to normal and the "blap blap" on decel has returned, that with no 'spit' that was becoming a once a day occurance.

Gus, how old of a distributor do you have? possible issues with that could be a worn shaft bearing, a bad pick up coil, or tired advance springs.

It has been on the Jeep since I purchased it about 5 years ago TH, but I believe that if the distributor, bushing or gear were the issue the symptoms would be more consistant than once or twice a day. That being said I need to speed up the idle a smidge and reposition the fuel filter better.

Last night I adjusted the AFB to get the idle right, since setting the timing to 5* the idle slowed down a little too much. Also I loosened all the lines to the filter and got it vertical so I'm hoping that'll be an end on it.

Hmmm
You'd think that after fiddling with the fuel filter it would've dawned on me to check it's flow. I changed out the dingus with a NAPA gold filter and first 25 mile round trip and not a peep.
:dunno:
You'd think I remember even manuals are set up for diagnosis simple steps to the more complicated

Thanks for the update, I did not know that N.A.P.A. made a 3 hole fuel filter for the CJ. It might take a bit more than 25 miles for a good test, but it sounds like you are in the right direction.

This is good news.
I do think there is a real chance you may also have water in your gas tank.
Lucas fuel injector cleaner will help with that.
Carry at least 1 spare fuel filter with you all the time.
BTW: All of my filters come from NAPA ;)
ALSO---Pull the rotor off your 'dizzy' and add a few drops of engine oil to the wick of that center shaft.
