I have to drive to Mississippi for a training school this coming weekend. I'm going to be there for a month and I didn't want to fly down and be stuck there with no car. So, I dropped the money in to 4 new shocks, a new steering stabilizer and a new trac-bar for my 2001 XJ. It's needed for a while now and I'm really glad that I did it. Anyway, after I finally got everything put back together again and took it out for a ride I realize that my steering wheel is about 45 degrees off counterclockwise (it was always about 10ish degrees off before). Is this something I can adjust, or should I just schedule an alignment and pay someone to do it?

After sitting down to think about this for a minute it hit me. Hey dummy, was the alignment straight on it before you replaced all that stuff? Well yeah, it drove straight down the road, it didn't pull to either direction and the front tires both wore very evenly. Well then the alignment isn't off. And nothing that I changed affects alignment. So I did a little internets digging and found this;

Basic Jeep Front End Alignment

There's a decent little writeup on the bottom of the page about how to adjust your steering wheel. Simple enough, just adjust the sleeve on the drag link. Heck, I've already went out and adjusted it and took it for a spin. It's close enough for government work, that's for sure.....

One more step on the path to enlightenment.:cool:
