Build Thread My old Blue 84' CJ7 build

Build Thread My old Blue 84' CJ7 build
When I met the guy I was expecting wore out tires and fair wheels, and $85 for 5 wheels was a good buy. Turned out a great deal with old BFG's having 1/2 tread and only small cracks. Still, I think 35's are a little big for my Jeep but want to try them.

I love those wheels. I have them on now (chrome modulars from Amer. Racing) and am planning on buying these again. Cragar still makes them (320 series). I'd prefer a lighter alloy wheel but I hate black wheels and haven't seen any chrome ones yet that I like. And I don't like the ones with bigger but fewer holes in them. Chrome just works well with slate blue.
I'm not big on chrome and when I got these I thought they were going to need a coat a paint. After I got them cleaned up I have to agree with you they look good on the old blue Jeep so I'm going to leave em be.

" I choose the Howell for cost (I'm cheap)"

Your definition of cheap must be different than mine! Your talking $2k minimum to get away from a carb from what I've seen. So I just upgraded to a Weber. Haven't installed it yet though but I did have enough change left to buy a brand new frame! :)

LOL They won't let us change carbs out here or I would a been happy with that. The Howell is $1200 ($1300 for Ca.) and yeah I did have to save for a while to go this way but I always seemed to have another new vacuum leak when it came to smog test time, or that POS Carter was acting up again. :bang:

Well that's not as bad as I had thought, Still a chunk of dinaro, but not as big. Maybe in a couple years when I rebuild the motor!

Yes it has been. Where the :censored: you been? I have 2 different Cjs since then. Glad to see your still at it. I liked the look of this CJ7 from the start.
Wow has it really been that long since I up dated??

LOL thanks Pete, I'm really liking my CJ7 more and more $$$ but I have so many ideas and only so many pennies in a day to save.

Hey what are you gonna do with your stock carb?
I was going to gold plate it and put in the wife's curio cabinet. But hey if you need it I'll let it go for the cost of shipping.

Very nice. Now you can install a snorkel. :D

And to whoever is installing a Weber, DON'T DO IT. I hate that thing. I would get the adapter and go with a motor-craft carb. I have to adjust my Weber every fall and spring. I have issues on inclines flooding out the carb and stalling. Nothing like coasting down a 35 degree climb dodging trees, rocks and jeeps with two 5 year olds in the back. Just my two cents.

I called Weber and I was told they do not like inclines. I was like WTF are you kidding? Why would you sell this for jeeps if they weren't made for off road?

I was told to turn the carb around 180 degrees. This allows you to climb a hill but not stall. Here is the kicker. You stall on the down grade but can clutch start your jeep towards the bottom. Nice answer from Weber.

I haven't done that though. I'm installing a AMC 304 with an off road carb.

Someday...

lol I live in a desert so we have to go find a spot to get our tires wet. I never heard this about Webers but I know when I would climb a rock that POS Carter would flood and stall.
