My very sad update...

My very sad update...
Great nobody got too hurt, but it's always heart breaking to see a CJ5 in that condition. I just hope the frame didn't get bent. I hope you can restore it back to it's former glory!

I almost had an accident in my CJ5 when some tinted out black escalade stopped on a five lane road to let someone cross over from the suicide lane. I couldn't see what hell he was doing or that there was anyone in the suicide lane, so I attempted to just drive past on the right lane. I was about ten feet from the SUV, when the other vehicle, who I couldn't see, finally decided to cross over oncoming traffic. With a distance of maybe 10 feet and my drum brakes, I had no choice but to swerve out of the way, and hope to god I wouldn't flip over. I cleared the vehicle by maybe inches. It was hands down the most white knuckle experience i've ever had, and i was in shock for a couple hours afterwards.

I hope your experience does sour you to Jeeps. No matter how well you drive, sometimes you'll get into one of those unavoidable situations.

BTW whoever says your downgrading by having a CJ5 doesn't know what the heck they're talking about.

Hedge knew I was out to ruffle his feathers. 78 CJ5 was my first ever Cj. :chug:

Speaking of owned CJs, have you considered changing your profile from "looking for a Scrambler," to "search for lots of pictures of my Scrambler?"

Any updates on your Jeep?

The other guy's insurance company is being very nice. No word on the amount if they total it. I'll keep y'all posted.

Ok, so it's totaled for sure. Good news, they're going to sell it to PartsPro. So it will be parted out, no scrap yard. They're giving me more than I paid for it or have in it total. The damage estimate was $16000! More damage than I originally thought frame is twisted pretty good. Front axle is broken, plus broken rear drive shaft. Not to mention the extensive body damage. The body is 4" narrower than it originally was... In a way, it's a blessing. Glad she kept the wife and I safe. My wife is on meds and doing physical therapy for injuries to her back and hip/pelvis. She's alright though.

Wow. That is a higher $$ than I expected. Good luck to your wife for a speedy recovery.
I know, it surprised the insurance adjuster too. The wife will be fine. She's still able to work and whatnot.

A lot is with the twisted frame. We had our Expedition hit on the pass front fender. The frame moved 4 inches. The cost of repairing the frame alone was $15,000. Instantly totaled due to that one repair aspect.

Looks pretty unmolested. Nice drive train combo. What's it need? Thoughts on the AMC 304 vs the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l ? We need more pics. :chug:

And notice he ot another CJ7 . :p

Motor is recently rebuilt. Right fender needs patched,. between tire and cowl. Two spots on the frame are going to get patched (not horrible, but needs done). Of all the things that normally don't work, on a Jeep, the original gas Gauge works. Speedo not working, maybe a cable? If not, it's getting a new GPS Speedo. Need to fix a short in the taillights (driver side). It is all original, except the rhino liner paint job. I didnt pay very much for it. So, the Jeep bankroll is still pretty big.

The difference in power between the V8 and the Straight6 is like night and day.

Once I really get going on it I will start build thread. More pics to follow.

Any news on the insurance and the ability to "buy back" for the good parts?

And nice 7 by the way.
The insurance company sold it to a parts outfit. They're going to part it out. The buyback wasn't worth it for me. I'd rather spend my money on the new one

Glad you at least had the option. Thanks for the update.

I hope that holds true with the AMC 304 in my Scrambler. Looking forward to seeing the build thread. :chug:

I agree!! Wait...yours or his?

His. God you are persistent. :D I did sell some parts I have to sink into the Scrambler though. Just not ready yet.

Since we own CJs, aren't all of us? Otherwise, who else would show them the love they need?
