Sorry it had been so long. Between work, buying a house, I just haven't had time to get on here.

Some guy pulled out in front of me and my wife, this weekend. Here's the aftermath :

Taken 15 minutes before the accident.

The right side of my wife's body actually made contact with the other vehicle. Nothing broken, she's just bruised and sore.

That puts the sucks in going out for ice cream.

I am very glad the neither of you left the scene in an ambulance.

Is the CJ's damage too extensive for you to repair?

She did go to the hospital, but she is ok now.

The CJ has pretty considerable damage. Besides the fender and tub:

Broken front axle
Broken drive shaft (rear)
Bent rear spring shackles
Exhaust damage
Twisted frame

Well that sucks. Glad all are okay. That driver should be drawn and quartered! Check with the insurance co. to see what the buy back is if they total it. Then at a minimum you could part it out. I just hate to see Jeep parts go to the bone yard or crusher. Parts are getting harder to find.

You had me ready for repairs until twisted frame. Ugh

I am prepping for a frame swap myself and don't really look forward to it.

Glad you guys are OK and it wasn't worse.

Also, I hope insurance is fair to you. Was it a Stated Value policy? I fear that they will value the CJ less than it is really worth.

I'll have to check into that.

I'm not at fault, so I am not sure what his insurance company will give me... Still waiting.

Good luck. And do look into being able to buy it back. There are enough good parts left to make up some costs.

I want my bumpers... Just the corner of m front bumper hit his left wheel/front quarter. It damn near ripped the whole front end of his SUV off. Removed the tire, all the suspension and part of engine. It just scratched my bumper..

Glad both of you are safe.

I DD mine every day and am constantly worried about the yahoos on the road and if/when something similar will happen. Safety of the passengers and myself have been a great concern over anything else and sometimes I wonder if I'm the fool for driving a vehicle where we are so exposed. The good from this incident is seeing that both of you are relatively safe even with the open environment of a CJ and it sounds like the offender received the greatest amount of damage. Helps reassure me in my travels some. I hope you are able to recover from it physically, emotionally and financially.

Shoulder belts are a lifesaver.

As others stated glad to hear you are both ok. I'm also glad to see the whole thing hasn't soured you on having a Cj. No need to punish yourself by downgrading to a CJ5 though. :poke: :D

The Doc, at the hospital, asked my wife, "Why would you ride in a vehicle that has no doors?". She looked at him like he was crazy and said, "Have you ever rode in a Jeep?!".

OUCH! :) ...... Errr "Down grade to a CJ5 " Errrr ...... :) ....... watch it there buddy, not everybody wants a "Scrambler Short".
..........................................................................................................

Seriously, I'm so glad you and your better half are okay. Unfortunately the insurance company will try to give you a few hundred dollars and a sheepish smile. Definitely go for salvage and if possible try to keep them from writing up a salvage title.

Speaking of bumpers, I wonder what would have happened if you had a big nasty full width bumper up front. Probably frame damage, the energy needs to go somewhere .... hmmm doesn't really matter you are where you are now and still healthy.

Errr .... CJ5 ....

Disclaimer: The above CJ5 comments were a wedge used to find some humor in what could have been potentially a very bad situation. ...... "Downgrade" ..... Errr!

Great nobody got too hurt, but it's always heart breaking to see a CJ5 in that condition. I just hope the frame didn't get bent. I hope you can restore it back to it's former glory!

I almost had an accident in my CJ5 when some tinted out black escalade stopped on a five lane road to let someone cross over from the suicide lane. I couldn't see what hell he was doing or that there was anyone in the suicide lane, so I attempted to just drive past on the right lane. I was about ten feet from the SUV, when the other vehicle, who I couldn't see, finally decided to cross over oncoming traffic. With a distance of maybe 10 feet and my drum brakes, I had no choice but to swerve out of the way, and hope to god I wouldn't flip over. I cleared the vehicle by maybe inches. It was hands down the most white knuckle experience i've ever had, and i was in shock for a couple hours afterwards.

I hope your experience does sour you to Jeeps. No matter how well you drive, sometimes you'll get into one of those unavoidable situations.

BTW whoever says your downgrading by having a CJ5 doesn't know what the heck they're talking about.

jzak - :) that was just Peter and his little avatar love that avatar, having some inter jeep family fun.

Had a similar experience last weekend. Driving 45mph down the semi rural street happy as can be when the SUV in front of me suddenly slams on his brakes and stops to allow a cyclist to cross in a Bike Lane Crosswalk. I hit my drum brakes and squalled tires in an impressive way, along with several other vehicles behind me. The bike guy sheepishly crossed the road with a look that clearly said, "Hey, sorry, I would have been happy to wait."
