so i gotta get a CB going as a requirement to go with a local club but the antenna that was there when i got the jeep has a screw in the center, so thought just remove and put in cable? center doent fit. Can any one tell but the pick what my option is..can seem to find a cable that looks right
the CB cable is a female threaded and a center post, i took the screw out and tried to just connect it, and the post seems too big.. do they make a cable without the screw on end on one side? new to CBs only got it to go out with the club
just dont know what type of hole is going to be left behind if i yank off the plate/antenna mount thats there now..was just trying to use what was there prior to spending cash
Yes it's got a tuner, Its a cobra 29 nightwatcher CB, was wondering if cutting the cable was an option.
So cut one end...one to ground one to center screw. Should work?
Tried asking radio shack about a cable and they just looked at me funny when I mentioned CB radio.
i said the same to my wife..very bizare! iremember all types of things you could get there and now sadly like you said it was like walking into verizion or something....he even tried to sell us new cell phones.
Dan, your on the right track.peel back the shield a couple inches, twist together and put a ring end on it and terminate to ground. Put ring connector on center wire and connect to the screw on center of ant.May want to put some liquid tape on all the wires after you get done adjusting SWR.Like was suggested get with someone with a SWR meter that knows how to use it.Get your standing wave adjusted and your golden. My '67 had one when I got it and debating about putting it back in.Mostly for the nostalgia look.

Tks Mstar, got plenty of brass crimps/heat shrink/ect, I'm gonna try it, just to try and keep what's there.
My dad just got me this CB, so all the destructions are there and it walks you through the swrl adjust. So I'll try if not before we go out saturday. if i got issues ill have someone help then.
X (whatever) with regard to setting up with an SWR meter unless you're very lucky you're antenna will need adjusting. One issue I didn't see mentioned yet (mind you I'm going blind in my old age) is in your pic I noticed corrosion in the near viscinity of the nut & bolt. If you're grounding the antenna make certain it's on a clear patch of metal!
so i cut one end off and all the wires around the center cable is just weaved together and is falling apart, no way to put a terminal on??? maybe i cut too deep
