need help with my 77 cj5

I have a 1977 CJ5 that I recently replaced the manual steering box on. Now for some reason it seems to tighten up on turns and then breaks loose sending you ceerening in the direction of the turn. I have noticed some noise in the steering box but everything seems tight. I have had one person tell me they thought it was an axil not the box, anyone ever had this type of problem?

i had this same problem in an early bronco i have. it was the u joint closest to the wheel. it was all dried up and the needle bearings were wasted. it would lock up and then pop free at weird times. replaced the u joint and all was good
