Now that I think about it Certifiable Jeep on the CJ8 site has a 86 he's parting out and I think it was this color.

He got back to me this morning and is using the fenders for another project. I am sure I will find something this winter. I have plenty of time. I just want to get her home and start doing a full inspection to get my list budget started.

Great looking CJ and at a great price.
I guarantee I'll have as many $$$$$ tied up in mine before it's said and done and "probably" won't be in as good of shape as what your starting out with.
Congrats on a good find!!

It doesn't take long. I have $23,000 tied up into my CJ8 .

Jeep budgets are one thing that expand faster than your waistline. [emoji23]

Thats ok. I plan replace them so i can do a proper polishing of the paint while they are off.

Yeah he's using them on his truck project. I'd love to follow along when you start working on the Laredo . I've developed a soft spot for factory look restorations.

I will be sure to do a thread on it. It will be cosmetic and cleaning mostly. I am not going to do nut and bolt like the Scrambler.

I brought the Jeep home Wednesday evening on a 20 mile drive. Now normally that would be a big deal but there were a few issues that I did not expect. The brakes have never been done and the fluid has rust in it. I topped it off but they were marginal at best. Also I ran into an issue that I am very mad about. When I checked this Jeep out last week it was pouring so ti was hard to check everything. I did get in it and drive it forward and backward to verify that it moved and stopped but I failed to inspect the locking hubs. Well picked the Jeep up I went through everything and topped off the tires with air and then saw the hubs were locked so I unlocked them. I got in the Jeep and it would not move. I looked underneath the the rear shaft was spinning while in gear. So basically the rear end is broken. My guess would be spider gears are toast because if it was the ring gear or something else it would be locked but. I did get the Jeep home but now I have an axle to repair. Luckily I have spares axles so I can swap one out but man I was mad when I found it and already paid and signed the title. Either way the Jeep is home and waiting to be worked on next month.

Man - Sorry to heat about the rear end - but with any luck, the axles are sporting the wonderfully fantastic 2.73’s and you would have swapped in something a little more useful anyway.

Keep us posted on what you find

Probably has a bad rear hub/axle shaft with stripped splines.

Don't beat yourself up too bad. If that's the only thing wrong with it count yourself as lucky.
I think you still got your money's worth +.
At least it's home now.

I sold him a set of original rust free Laredo front fenders in the same color awhile back he may still have them.

I wish he had them but we talked and he is out of any good fenders. In due time one will pop up.

I finally had a chance to take a look at the rear end and I found the driver side axle is shot. The castle nut was loose and the splines are stripped as expected. I have a spare set of axles to put in or I may just get some Moser shafts like I have in the past.

I picked up all the spare parts that the seller said he would give me with the Jeep. He had quite a bit of NOS parts still in the AMC boxes. Some of it I will use and some I plan to sell to help pay for this project. I have never seen a brand new AMC clock before and now I have one. He even has the NOS end caps for the spare tire carrier. Anyone ever see a block heater? I have a never use one in a box. I never knew those even existed. He gave me a very nice Bestop Super top. All the hardware for a factory top which I will sell at some point.

Once christmas passes I will buy the parts I need to fix the front end and start cleaning. I found a person through FB that has what I need for the front end and interior but we need to come to a price for everything.
