Would like to hear from others on what y'all think it would take to turn a Cj into a $20000 or better valued jeep?

Keep it close to stock ( maybe lift only and wheels/tires ), frame off full restoration, make it as good or better than new. :chug:

Umm a brand new cj untouched lol

I seen a guy who had 2 one white one black..both 86's brand new..soft top in the boxes body not even drilled which apparently makes the value higher..wonder what there worth..

I agree to keeping a full factory restoration would have the most value. That said, somebody willing to pay 20 grand would probably want to have some modern conveniences like disc brakes, power steering, and maybe even a fuel injection system.

You might want to look at restoring a CJ8 Scrambler. Even in bad condition, those things are worth a hell of a lot!

Not sure why but a CJ8 demands 6-8 grand no matter what. Been a few 8's round here close to 20 grand… not any 5,6, or 7's

For me to pay 20k for a cj it would still have to be on the dealer floor with 0 miles.:D

And even though I said that, I probably have that much in mine (really don't want to know)
but I could never sell it for what I have in it.

When people ask how much I've got into my Jeep, I just tell them 'an embarrassing amount of money'. If the ask how much I'll eventually have in it, I tell them, 'One Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit - Hemi, and One Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon'. (Oh, and I just traded my 2011 Hemi GC Overland for a new 2014 Hemi GC Summit. $51,984 basically Truecar.com price, on a $55,885 vehicle.)

To the OP: Unless you've got a pristine original CJ, that only needs some 'polish', you're going to throw $.90 away on every $1.00 you spend.

:agree: And you cannot upgrade. You need to find all NOS parts to replace whats needed. Its going to be a labor of love, not a cash generator. Scramblers with the Laredo option and low miles can bring 20k. Most of them are in the 12.5k to 15k realistically though , and you dont see many.

You can easily have 10gs in the motor alone

Yep. I picked my 'barely used' Ford Racing 5.0L up off eBay for around $4,000. It did include a lot of extras that would have cost a bunch of money if I had to add them: Upper/Lower manifolds, TB, MAF, 24# injectors. Along with a cart load of stuff that was Mustang specific and I could sell.

I've got WAAAAAY too much $$$$$ in my CJ5 . I let it sit for almost 5 years deciding whether to finish it, part it out, sell it, or donate it. If I had the time to part it out, I would also have the time to finish it. I don't. I decided to find a local shop and get it finished. The problem with this is, it will cost me more to have the shop finish up the project, than the finished project will ever be worth.

Yeah, it's an addiction. An obsession. A sickness. And we all know, that no matter how much work you've done, it will never be 'finished'.

Thats the norm for ebay… theirs 5,000 and 15,000 price brackets I think when I browse EBAY. There was a CJ7 but had a tj frame and tub… looked sharp, very sharp and done correctly but at like 20,000 grand its eye candy for me. Wonder why folks who can afford a new jeep dont buy these or maybe the over priced ICON jeep?

I see lots of over priced jeeps on fleabay and CL. but they never sell.

Take a look at this one. Ended but look what he was asking. 32k. Reserve not met.

Gotta love how delusional some sellers can be. They have this crazy logic of "I spent $30,000 rebuilding this! Therefore, I should be able get that money back when I sell it."

Doesn't work that way, buddy! :)

:agree:

I thought it was just me thinking that way. Sad, it seems most out there are fishing, waiting to hook a fool, or a guy with too much money, or both.

Most vehicles are priced lower in the u.s ..better deal for Canadians ..I checked out jeeps there when I bought mine and for some reason the ones in the USA are priced way higher than canada..
