I found this in the negative wire coming out of the coil connector. I'm not sure what it is. I looked at the service manual diagram and nothing is shown in that wiring diagram. I'm about to do the Team Rush mod and wondering if I can just cut this thing out. I'm also wondering if this might be the reason my factory tach doesn't work.
Thanks
Scott
As a side note, do you need to do anything to the factory tach if you do the entire Team Rush mod?

I think that is the wire for the tach.

I however, am not positive of this...

There is a write up on BusaDave just doing the mod, but i do not notice on his diagram where that wire went to.

I think the MSD box would send the tach info to the gauge in this above instance...

All of this is just assumption though, so I'd wait for another reply if I were you

This is one that is on mine.

I think that is a ballast resistor if i am not mistaken... And i very well might be...

I think the OP has got the Tach wire(i assume), you're showing again what i assume to be the ballast resistor. Mine does not have one, so I can not be certain of that...

It's inline in the green wire that runs from the negative on the coil to the ignition module. I don't see anything in the service manual on that wire other than the plug to the ignition module.
Thanks

That actually may be the condensor. looks like what was inside my original distributor... But back to the OP's question, I still really think it is the tach wire.

Not sure, but really think so. Busa is here though, he'll probably shed some light on the situation :D

:p
Ballast is on the hot wire.

Thought I was wrong about that... Was I right it was condenser maybe?

I have an '81 CJ5 and the green wire goes to the idle speed switch. The PO added a separate tach and ran a wire from this one to the tach. The schematics for an '84 shows the green wire going to the Ignition Module. It probably serves as more than just a tach function.

Thanks for the replies. I always say "when in doubt, cut it out". So when I get home, its gone.

this is electronics and not household wiring
in electronics, black is ground, and green is not a identified ground color, so just because it is green does not mean it is a ground, I think you need to trace the wire back to it's source, after all it has been a generation since the last CJ was built, it could be almost anything:chug:
