Hello everyone. I'm the proud new owner of a 1964 CJ6 . I was looking for a CJ5 on CL, but I ran across the CJ6 . I had to have it! I bought it from a really nice fellow, maybe in his late 20's. His grandfather was the original owner. It's always been in Arizona and California so it's cancer free. Typical drivetrain.... 3 speed, warn Overdrive , Dana 27 axels, etc. It was upgraded in the late 60's from the 4cyl to the Dauntless Buick 225 V6 V6. I feel like I totally scored being that it's all there 100% to include full hard top and doors.

Driving it home, my feet almost melted. The first thing I'm going to do is get the firewall sealed, firewall and floor insulated, and and new lever boots. In conjunction with that, I want to hang some TJ peddles and upgrade to the brakes to power assist. The jeep came with a junkyard set if peddles, vacuum booster, and TJ master cylinder. Hopefully it will work. From there, I'm going to systematically start restoring mechanical and cosmetics. I'm sure that I will have a million questions to come but any input like parts sources, upgrade suggestions, and whatever else would be much appreciated.

I would kind of like to explore the option of going diesel with it. Maybe a 5cyl Mercedes or similar. I was really thinking of it until I learned about the efficiency and reliability of the Dauntless Buick 225 V6 V6. I have read a lot of threads about the difficulty of doing a diesel swap also. (Hopefully someone is reading this and has another opinion/input on the subject) haha

Anyway, I look forward to hearing from all of you. I'm in SoCal so any locals would be cool to meet also.

^^ x2

Welcome, I'd enjoy viewing some pics.

Please update if you go this route. I'm hoping to do this late summer or early fall. Have everything lined out but just need to find the time and donor vehicle/engine.

This should be the fifth picture. Let me know if you guys can see them. Uploading from my phone so I want to make sure that it works good.

Nice.... It looks like you've got a full set of gauges. Do they all work?

:ww: looks like you scored a sweet Jeep congrats :notworthy:

They all work except the temp gauge. The PO said that it just needs to be hooked up. I'm thinking of either going with the Dakota Digital all in one set, going back to the original cluster, or re-doing what is there.

you already have the holes so why not use'em. Especially if your only having troubles with the Temp. gauge?

I hear you Hedgehog. If I were to get rid of them, it would be to clean up the dash.

I'm going for a really nice restoration starting today. The original color was green so I want to do the body and doors in a British racing green. Top and interior will be tan. Dash and roll bars will of course be green as well. Going to pull the Dauntless Buick 225 V6 , rebuild it, clean and paint the engine compartment. New seals on the Transmission , OD, and Transfer Case . Rebuild the axels with new bearings, seal, brakes and steering components. Rewire the whole jeep and finish up with little things like weather stripping etc.
