Hello all. I have had this CJ for about ten years, and haven't really used it much in the last 5. I now have my house projects done(ish) and it's time to give it the restore it badly needs.

Here's a few shots:

The post on this thred said that markers on the fenders weren't added until 1970, but this one has them. Possible after market?

The body is rough, but it runs good. I've done nothing to it but put in gas.

There is an ugly as sin back bumper that's gotta go:

Next question: This doesn't have a parking brake. The holes in the dash are from a crappy stereo that the previous owner added. Where was the parking brake in the 1960? My dad has a 1948, and my brother has a 1952, both with parking brakes on the dash. Did the 1960 not have one?

Floor boards are shot. I was just going to fix with the tub in place and do a quick paint job, but after lurking on this forum, the tub is coming off, major body work done, and I'm going to give it a full undercoating.

Need new seats

As I said before, the engine runs good. There is a leak in the radiator that needs fixed.

Need a new heater hose and need to get the heater motor running.

This obviously is not the original carburetor. It seems to work pretty well. But a question, is there a suggested carb/air cleaner for this engine? And if I keep this carb, what should I do with the oil breather thingy that has the rag stuck in it. And what's that called? And what does it really do?

Thanks for looking and I welcome any and all comments and advice. I'll be posting in the Build category when I get that started.

Was that a Surrey Jeep at one time? I see a pink paint there.

I don't think so. From what I know, Surreys were a DJ 2WD model. I think this is just ugly primer.

I don't know much, but I know those marker lights on the fenders are after market add-ons.

Nice Jeep. I'd like to have one like that.

Hello your front fender lights are not a factory item, as far as the E brake goes it would be located on the lefthand side of the dash, the handle assembly bolts to the lip under the dash.

The thing with the rag in it is your air cleaner, you are missing the fitting that goes on top of the carb and a hose that goes over to the air cleaner. I can send you a picture if you like.

0822, pictures would be great. I think the air cleaner is non-functional with this particular carb. There is a small silver filter on top of it.

Also, if you have any pictures of the E brake and the dash, that would be much appreciated. I haven't ever seen one with the E brake on the left. Also, I think I'm missing some gages on the dash - oil pressure and volt/amp?

I've been following your restore project. Great work! Part of the reason I decided to tear into mine.

Thanks CMack. The older CJ did not have any factory installed oil or amp/volt gauges. They have the idiot lights in the speedometer, one for oil pressure and one for voltage. I will get a few pictures after work and send them out to you.:)

CMack here's a few pictures of the factory air filter on my 1955 CJ5 they are the same for the 60 also.

Thanks. This is a big help. May need to rework the carb.

Interesting note: my daughter saw this thread up on the computer and asked in a panicky voice if I was selling the jeep! She learned to drive in it, so I'd be in big trouble if I sold it.
