i have a 1980 CJ5 and i am trying to get the fuel gauge to work... Its been a hassle already.. I put in new stewart and warner temp and fuel gauge in.. The red wire that goes to the I terminal on fuel gauge will not show hot! the gauges have grounds to the speedometer cluster.. Any idea why the red wire wont show hot? This thing is a wireing mess behind the dash and i dont know exactly where this red wire is coming from haha oh and which fuse is responsible for the speedometer cluster and or fuel gauge? I would really aprreciate help and i stummbled upon this website and it looks like a cool place with a lot of information.. Thanks

That red wire should have 12 volts when the ignition is on. Many OEM gauges splice off the same red wire. If you can't get 12 volts from the red wire to the OEM gauge then there should be other places to get it such as the radio. But it's important that you get a 12 volts line that turns off when you turn off your jeep.

oh ok.. Well there is a heavier gauged yellow wire that isnt connected to anything that shows hot when the key is on.. It measures right at 12 volts. So that wire should work im thinking... thanks for the help, my gauge still wont work so im thinking its the sending unit...

ok i have another quick question.. ive got the heater box out of my jeep and i am replacing the heater core... Is it worth putting in a new heater motor while ive got the heater box out.. ive heard about the gm upgrade but do not know if it is legit or not? If so what motor is it i need exactly?

Yes the Blazer blower motor is a good ugrade :chug:
